Eskom usage inside home assistant
Howdy ho fellow tinkerers. Does anyone know a good device that can monitor my eskom usage for home assistant? We have just got a new prepaid meter. Have attached a Pic. Ideally it would be great to have one unit installed in our cottage DB and one in our house. Many thanks in advance.

Chatgpt inside home assistant
Thanks. I was just thinking perhaps using the api would solve a bit of back and forth and also allow one to make use of got 4.0. I could also perhaps have it asses all my entities / sensors and come up with better solutions. I use chatgpt often for advice and brainstorming. It's quite incredible what it comes up with. Literally saves one tens of hours reading the web and pestering friends. From what I remember 4.0 is significantly more accurate than 3.5

Chatgpt inside home assistant
Has anyone experimented with chatgpt inside of HA? Does anyone know if it can see your entities, sensors etc? Wondering if it could help create a few scripts and automations. Would probably be better/smarter than me at creating these.

Does a device like this exist?
I looked at the cbi the other day, looks to have great features. but maybe ill implement this later on. with the OPS function on the Sonoff Power2 would this cut off the load before it reaches the inverter. I have home assistant so can also do this route perhaps also later on

See @iiznh post further up. From my understanding breakers don't act fast enough? So loads would hit the inverter before the breaker has time to react

The fuses sound like a cost effective way to go. Plug idea is great. Regarding the fuse holder. Im guessing this is fitted into the live (brown) wire and the neutral (blue)? Another thing apparently one can use DC fuses on ac electricity. (However not ac fuses on DC). In saying that would one be OK with using 2-3amp DC fuses from the car shop?

Thanks for the info. Sheesh wondering how I can solve this issue. The thing is the inverter is simply on an extension cord so that the guests can also plug the cellphones and laptops into during load shedding. I'd like to offer them this service without blowing up my inverter. I can go the red plug route but they need regular sockets for their devices.

Surely the breaker will trip the load before it reaches the inverter? Thank you

Is this not the same thing as just turning an appliance off?

Inverter fan swap out
They worked great while I had it. However I've upgraded. For what it's worth the newer models are quieter. Seems they have adjusted the speed settings. Tk in the technical department in CT is a great help. He knows all about these inverters.

Does a device like this exist?
Hello folks So we have a little airbnb cottage we rent out. It's got an extension cord in there that is connect to our small 1000w inverter. We have tried to tell our guests please not to plug heaters or hair dryers into the extension cord as our inverter shits itself each time. Im worried it soon might just call it a. Day on us and then we are all screwed. In saying this is there a device where one can set a max wattage (say 600w or 1000w) and then shuts off when it hits that. Itss gotta be quick enough before my very quick inverter notices something. It's a real pain having to drive home to turn on and off my inverter each time. I have home assistant. No I don't have the money to buy a bigger inverter. Many thanks 🤙

any way to increase utility charge amps?
MY 12v lifepo4 1000k axpert has been great so far, until that is Eskom has stage 6 going quite often now. Nighttime is where my problem is. After 4 hr eskom loadshedd that batterys are just about dead. It seems the max they draw is 20amp from the grid, so i think this is the bottle neck that restricts the amount of juice to recharge the battery in time before the next load shed. Are there any clever ideas to up the amperage? We cant afford another 12v battery at the moment (this would be ideal). I guess we could install a bunch of aqara zigbee pir sensor to turn our outside lights on only when presence is detect. This could save energy in the battery so it doesnt get so low.

Home Assistant app
Thanks. Going to give this a try. Question. How come you need Frp for solar assistant? I can access it remotely through the app and their website as it stands.

Do you mean the address my devices fall under on our network? Ours are 10.0.0.x Not sure if it's correct but on the previous screenshot I posted of the route settings it shows 10.0.0.24 toggled on. I'm not sure what this is but I believe the ip for my home assistant machine is 1.0.0.28

So I've managed to install the tailscale add on via HACS (version by frenck) and installed tailscale on my android phone. I enabled the subnet routes in the settings on tailscale website. However when I enable tailscale on my phone well outside my network and I try to connect to home assistant it does not work. I even tried the IP number for home assistant server which is 10.0. 0.28 Did i miss å step somewhere? Tx Edit: i only installed the version from HACS. I did not install the version inside Intergrations.

Am I doing this right? Trying to get my inverter to do something based on a trigger. The trigger here is - 2hrs before loadshedding Does this look correct? Screenshot with yaml attached

Does the home assistant app allow one to control your home assistant from abroad? Im out of town and can't seem to connect to my house. Is there where one buys the cloud services?

Solar Assistant - ask for a trial before you buy
Looks like the problem is fixed. Its strange because everything works great now except that the inverter gets hung up on utility powering the loads even when it's set to solar first with good sun and a full battery. Not sure where the hiccup lies here. I did notice this morning it kicked over to solar after a high load kicked in - sort of woke it up. Or perhaps she needs a good 10-15.min to adjust to the setting.

What inverter you have?
