  1. @Cuan What fascinates me is the dirty look of the solder on those and the four what I can only assume are through-pins. Is that oxidation or did something burn in the area or the components themselves?
  2. @Cuan Those seem to be BrightKing products. They don't make finding a part easy. You will have to download their part documents and look for the specific markings. I think the BHP will be the marking you look for. Its a mission.
  3. Good day I am running 8x (4 x Lives, 4 x Neutrals) 1.5mm2 GP Wires in a conduit across a distance of about 12 metres. These wires connect to 4 x DIN Rail 220V LED Indicators. If I power on one of the indicators then another one has a slight glow. I measure 5V across that lightly glowing indicator (not supposed to be on). I made sure to test that none of the wires have any leakage (continuity) between them so may I then assume this to be induced by the powered line? If so, am I correct in saying that I have at least two options? Break the neutrals also when switching off the indicators. Add a strong enough resistor to minimize that induced voltage. Thank you

  5. I am not sure about a backup but I use the method of taking photos of each config section and page and store the photos. It makes it easy for me to quickly compare and also share my settings with others.

  7. I am very particular about the neutrals and earths in the installation. This installation is with a Sunsynk 5K and I am attentive to the Earth-Neutral Bond as well. Fortunately I am one of those heavy detail "Expressive" labellers.
  8. I could not find reasonably priced stock for this item lately so I pruchased the following for a new installation. It is not DIN Rail but will fit inside a DIN Rail DB board if you make your own bracket: https://www.robotics.org.za/IRM-60-12ST It has a bit more juice so it is perfect for the amount of extra fans I need to run and also the Microcontroller I want to use as well.
  9. This Essentials DB is a flush DB so yes, a small surface mount DB for the indicators will look a bit out of place. But rules are there for a reason and if they state that I cannot put the indicators in the same Esssentials DB then so be it. So it will be good to get a definitive answer about this. Would I be allowed to put that pump breaker in the same small surface mount DB as the indicators if I have to go the additional surface mount DB route?
  10. I have Indicators and a pump breaker in those Other DBs as well but this Essentials DB is not in close proximity to the other DBs and that is why I would like to have these additional Indicators and the additional breaker in the Essentials DB
  11. Good day I was wondering if the following is allowed per standards and rules (attached image). I could not ascertain that from the SANS spec. This is the Essentials DB and all the essentials share the Neutral in that DB. I would like to have separate Indicators and another Breaker in the same Essentials DB that does not share the Essentials DB but their lives and neutrals come from other DB boards. Thank you
  12. I wonder how long LiFePO batteries will lie in shops or warehouse before they are sold. I bought my inverter and battery in January and only installed in April. How long did it lie at the shop before it was sold? When I started it up it was around 70%. Do they charge it fully when it is manufactured? Will you have loadshedding at night and the battery be used? Will you switch off your system completely and just use Eskom power? The only thing I worry about when I go away for more than 3 days is whether the stuff in my freezer and fridge will be ok when I return because I always shut down my Inverter and Batter and I do not have solar so if our notoriously bad area goes down for 4 or more days (which has happened a few times) then the battery would have drained completely before that so best for me to have it shutdown during my trip and hope that the 3+ days downtime does not hit. Aspecially during summer.

  15. The owner of that house in the video will have to step up or down 3-4 layers of bricks everytime he wants to drive his car out or into the garage. He will need to buy a Humvee next time.

  17. @TaliaB Thanks, that makes sense. I am the "prevention is better than cure" type of guy and even though the Sunsynk is IP65 I would still prefer it to not get wet. I suppose I just answered my own question. Thank you for your advice, it is much appreciated.
  18. @TaliaB Is it required that I put the Inverter, Battery and DB Boards or in the very least the DB Boards inside some sort of weather proof "cabinet" against the outside wall?
  19. Good day Goal: I would like to ascertain what is allowed/required to be compliant with COC and the related laws and standards. We need to install an Inverter and Battery system to act in a UPS manner. The house (layout attached) where it is to be installed is an old house that was built onto many years ago. There is an enclosed area with an IBR Roof closed by a wall and two roof-high gates. There are two DBs; #1 being the original and #2 being the later added DB. The Geyser and Swimming Pool Pump runs from DB #2. My thinking was to place the Inverter and Battery outside the house in the enclosed area behind DB #1. Then run the cables from the geyser and the swimming pool pump back towards DB #1 thus making DB #2 an Essentials DB for the added building and then add another Essentials DB close to DB #1. I would like to avoid re-wiring the essentials. So my questions regarding this will be: 1. Is it allowed to place the Inverter and Battery outside the physical house but still in the IBR enclosed area against the wall on the otherside of DB #1? 2. Is it allowed to place another DB board outside the physical house but still in the IBR enclosed area against the wall on the otherside of DB #1? 3. Is it allowed to divert all the cables in the Main DB board (DB #1) to a new DB outside the physical house but still in the IBR enclosed area against the wall on the otherside of DB #1 thus making DB #1 obsolete? 4. Is it allowed to extend those diverted cables from DB #1 if they end up being short? What am I allowed to do it with? Ferrules and Heatshrink? 5. Is it allowed to extend the cables that runs from the Geyser and Swimming Pool Pump so that it can go all the way back to DB #1? Thank you
  20. Hello This is purely out of curiosity... Lets take the Sunsynk 5.5K inverter configured with the same battery discharge and charge rates with no solar. When will the inverter be running the hottest? When charging the battery or discharging the battery or will it be the same? Thank you

  23. @Scorp007 @frivan I think my question #3 was a bit unclear. Let's see if I can clarify. To help with that there are a few points to take note of: I have 2 plug breakers on the original/non-essential DB I have 2 light breakers on the original/non-essential DB I will move all the plug and light breakers to the Essential DB. I have to because I don't want to re-wire house plugs to separate heavy loads from small loads. I will have a 63A change-over switch feeding from the Non-Essential DB and also from the Inverter. The change-over will output into the Essentials DB. Sunsynk 5.5K Inverter has max continuous pass-through of 35A. I am not sure if that is only while Grid is off (Loadshedding) or not. For the sake of the question I will assume it will always be 35A irrespective of whether Grid is available or not. If change-over is set to the Inverter side then obviously we will only have 35A available for the Essiential DB If change-over is set to the Grid side then I want full 63A availability for the Essiential DB Considering the above points my original question #3 was to find out if it is allowed to put the 35A breaker that is fed from the Inverter, before the change-over and then have a 63A breaker after the change-over to protect when Grid side is selected on the change-over. BUT I thought about it a bit and would like to present the following diagram. Will this (diagram) make more sense and will it be allowed by standards?
