  1. Any issues with this inverter I should be careful of? I see its being "marketed" as off-grid. Also anyone know the Centurion Solar inverter control module "for maximising the potential of the Pylon batteries."
  2. I have been doing the same for the last 3+ months, take readings at 6PM and again at 6AM. I also get the midnight reading from the prepaid meter of the total usage from the previous midnight. PLUS I also compare this with my Efergy clamp (which seems to be about 4kW more per day)

" When is it appropriate to use ESS? Use ESS in a self-consumption system; a backup system with solar, or a mixture of both: For example you can use 30% of the battery capacity for self-consumption, and keep the other 70% available as a backup in the event of utility grid failure. Optimizing self-consumption: When there is more PV power than is required to run loads, the excess PV energy is stored in the battery. That stored energy is then used to power the loads at times when there is a shortage of PV power. The percentage of battery capacity used for self-consumption is configurable. When utility grid failure is extremely rare it could be set to 100%. In locations where grid failure is common - or even a daily occurrence - you might choose to use just 20% of battery capacity and save 80% for the next grid failure. African countries for example."

OK, I have to ask, what is ESS? Never mind, I found this on Victron site "What is ESS? An ESS (Energy Storage System) is a grid-tie installation, incorporating solar and battery-storage, which behaves as though it were an off-grid installation …thereby enjoying the best of both worlds."
  5. I have sent my local councilor an email to determine the regs for Ekurhuleni, hopefully he can assist or redirect.
  6. Hi @pilotfish would this be applicable to Ekurhuleni as well?
  7. Its September 2018 with rumors of petrol and diesel increasing to the highest ever... , electric vehicles are sounding a lot better... I travel 120KM per day to Pretoria University and back home every morning and again in the afternoon, with daylight time to recharge... ps @Travis how long does it take to recharge the i3 batteries?
  8. TAPTV is working!
  9. I have a 4mb line, I got Exodus and that seems to be ok for some sources. Netflix works just fine. Even get HD.
  10. Also the angle of your roof must have made working on it rather risky?
  11. How much meth are you cooking?
  12. I happened to come across a post relating to a parallel configuration and I wondered why. I may want to do this as describe by @plonkster to separate my daily main load from my nightly essential load. I use most of my grid during the daytime, hence if I could move it to PV, I should be one up on old Eishkom, new "Chingkom"
  13. so if I add 2 x 4kW inverters I get 8kW? Is the aim to "disconnect" the larger inverter at night to avoid it drawing from the batteries? Do you have a "drawing" of this option, i.e. where do PV go, batteries on smaller inverter?
  14. We need faster internet in SA for this to work...
  15. thanks, I will give it a bash.
  16. I see there are a variety of versions for Popcorn on Google Play. UKTVNow states "not optimised for your device"
  17. Just in case, I have labelled both the transformer and the wiring in the light to indicate 12V versus 220V
  18. I recently bought a MXq 4K TV Box and I was told to install Kodi with addons to be able to watch stuff online, don't seem to find Exodus or Incursion on Google that is compatible.
  19. Anybody using Kodi on a TV media player? What is the best addon to watch movies online?
  20. R100 at my local electrical wholesaler.
  21. OK, all 3 lights containing 8 x 1.5 Watt LED bulbs each, (total 36 Watts) now wired to one 220V to 11.5V transformer (rated 36W to 160W, so I'm just inside the minimums... mmm..., something totally unrelated...minimums, minimums, minimums = GPWS) and all working fine + no flickering on the one light as was the situation before
  22. you are welcome to dump that load (I mean the extra generated) my way
  23. yep, you right.
  24. ps... actual light switch contacts arced together. I had to strip it to "break" it apart. something weird happened.
