Sunsynk 8kW
Hi Heinds, yes you can. The best solution is to use a time on delay power relay. This is what I was using together with an Axpert earthing relay box before the software on the inverter was updated. The coil in the time on delay relay senses if you have Eskom gird. When AC lost it signals the earthing box to connect earth and neutral. When grid comes back it waits 60 seconds to unlink earth neutral coinciding with the moment the inverter reconnects grid (as you may know the default time a hybrid inverter takes to reconnect to grid once power restored is 60 seconds). Long story short I have this relay setup spare if want it.

Thanks Johan, yes exactly. To my knowledge it is a SANS "RSA electrical code" safety requirement. Search this forum on the subject to learn more. There are quite a few discussion strings on earth neutral bonding etc.

Sunsynk 8kW
Hi Werner, the only way to solve the problem is with a power relay linking load output neutral and earth when grid falls away and vice versa. The inverter emits a voltage signal to switch the relay on and off. To use this signal you have to have the latest firmware installed on the machine and check the box in settings for island mode signal. Refer to the latest Sunsynk manual. It shows how to wire and setup correctly.

Sunsynk 8kW
Good question. I think one would be enough but to be honest I am not sure. Check the manual page 9, they have a circuit block diagram showing how the AC and DC bus are set up. Including the grid, Gen, load outputs with relays diagrams.

Sure I’ll open it up when I get a chance and send a pic. In the mean time here is a link to their latest manual. Refer page 15 and 17. Mine was wired like the diagram. https://6a0f9a11-bc20-45f8-b815-9b3f4c5ed335.filesusr.com/ugd/50e58b_26a9a8b1b3ee486f808a5ad94bb042fc.pdf I used a 40A Normally open power relay with 230v ac coil from AC/DC. Live neutral wire powering coil into 240V ATS port on inverter. Earth wire bridging load E and N into the Common and NO port on relay. Make sure to tick is-landing mode signal check box setting in battery section of setup menu and Voila.

Sunsynk 8kW
Hi Johan, in passing the other Johan from Centurion Solar mentioned to me he was trying to retrieve the communication protocol from Sunsynk. I suppose Centurionsolar is thinking about running the Sunsynk on the ICC solar software. This should enable real time view and control like it can on the Mecer/Axeprts, however I do not see any reason Sunsynk cant hook up a better solution themselves.

Sunsynk 8kW
Hi Johan, do a voltage check between load neutral and earth when AC grid is off. One of the Sunsynk manuals specifically states you will read 110v with a floating neutral unless resolved with a relay. My load output neutral earth measured +- 50V when in island mode but this was resolved when I installed a relay. The 50V gave me a little bite when touched. Surprisingly my E/L did trip when you press the test button without relay installed but I was told that is not a reliable test for safe functioning. The Sunsynk definitely does not have an internal relay doing the bonding job like a Victron. I bought a R100 40A NO relay from ACDC. It is so small I fixed it with cable ties inside the inverter. As you know there is a lot of space inside once you open the front cover.

Inexpensive hybrid inverter suggestion
@JustinSchoeman Hi guys, it uses a heat sink supported by a variable speed fan. The only time the fan comes on is when the solar power is really pumping. It has quite a high pitched hum when really working, not something I would put in the kitchen or very near living areas. It is Ip65 rated so I would recommend to install in an outbuilding, under an eve outside somewhere or away from living areas. When the fan is off, which is most of the time, it is very quiet.

Sunsynk Inverter Query
Hi Rob Yes, I had something similar when in off grid mode until I sorted it out. PM message me and I will send you my phone number/e-mail to explain how to set up the Axpert earthing box. I have one spare if you need it. Regards

Goodwe vs others
Hi @Weasel - could you please indicate on the diagram the relay which bonds the neutral earth when inverter goes into is landing mode?

Inexpensive hybrid inverter suggestion
Hi Justin I have a Susnynk 5kw and I am very happy with it. Support is definitely on the up as it becomes more entrenched in RSA. To simplify your life I would go with the 1 x Sunynk 8kw. It is a very versatile inverter, much more so than the Axperts and Grow watts. (Generator support, micro/grid tied, wind turbine inverter input, detailed time of use settings, export power control and more). That R8k premium will be well spent when you measure your ROI over 10 years and the options you have available to expand your system. my 10 cents! Regards

Sunsynk Inverter Query
Hi Vassen I used an Axpert earthing box relay and it worked perfectly. It can be installed near your inverter. I have a spare kit for sale if you want? R400

Sunsynk Inverter Query
Absolutely. They are a full hybrid inverter with export power control.

Sunsynk Inverter Query
Hi Krish, sorry I missed your post, for some reason I did not receive a notification. To answer your question the difference in price between a 5kw and 8kw is more than R10k to my knowledge. I doubt whether a good electrician will charge you more than that to fix up a common neutral issue? In the end I spent about R3k to get it resolved however a lot of that had to do with a lack of experience on their part and different guys had to come and troubleshoot. Basically I learnt the following from the guys that solved it. If you split your circuits, the test to determine if a common neutral remains after installation. Switch off Eskom at 63amp breaker in DB. If you test a voltage (230V) between Eskom neutral and the inverter output live you have an issue somewhere. Bare in mind this issue can also be some kind of earth fault on a light circuit or similar. Deye/Sunsynk inverters can be remote controlled but the factory only releases this protocol on special request. You can remote monitor no problem with the Solarman APP. Installation - difficult question. In theory not difficult to install, but if you encounter issues then you might get stuck.

software for sunsynk + pylontech combo
You need to send your logger and inverter serial number to Sunsynk to request update. I suggest you go to Sunsynk website and send your details to the customer care e-mail address. Or ask your inverter supplier. Most of them are on wechat/whataspp groups with the factory/technical and they can request your download. The factory pushes download to your inverter via logger.

PV ARRAY TO INVERTER RATIO
I think where the 5kw Sunsynk pips the Goodwee on features is a higher backup power rating of 5000W continuous and 10 000w for 10 sec. Colour touch screen. 120A battery charge and discharge. Extra auxiliary port which can take a generator input with auto start. Same port can be AC coupled with a grid tied/micro inverter. MPPt to control wind turbine and the parallel setup. The software can control an earth bond relay from a function port, which to my knowledge a Goodwee cannot do at present? The Goodwee is Super silent as it has no fan and their app interface looks a bit better. Is the Goodwee support good? I have heard of a lot of issues as well.

software for sunsynk + pylontech combo
Hi Pieter Johan from ICC to my knowledge is working on the protocal for Sunsynk monitoring. Give them a call. BMS software for Pylontechs is built into the inverter.

PV ARRAY TO INVERTER RATIO
Hi NC 20. Initially I did not have a great time with the inverter but this was due to a tricky wiring fault in my house that took ages to diagnose, find and resolve. If you are splitting your circuits into essentials and non-essentials with inverter taking care of essentials loads only, any common neutrals and or earth faults not on earth leakage (lighting etc) can cause havoc with the way the inverter measures power. Once that was fixed the inverter works a charm. The devices are fantastic but there is still a steep learning curve with regard to technical advice and after sales service from the suppliers and installers.

PV ARRAY TO INVERTER RATIO
Hi NC20, I have this inverter purchased from Ellies. Just FYI mine states maximum PV array power is 6500W and max PV volts 500V. I think their spec sheet may need updating. Battery charge and discharge at 120A. I have pasted the info sticker stuck on my inverter below.

Help with Lithium battery?
Hi Francois It is on 110 cycles at the moment and is about 1,5 year old. It has a 10 warranty period to my knowledge. Spec sheet sais "more than 3500 cycles at 100% DOD", but mine has never gone that low. Normally around 60% or higher during load shedding. I think on 80% DOD or less it should have a life of 4/5 thousand cycles. Mine has a 92,4Ah remaining which does seem like a fast degradation to me. I will get in contact with the supplier

Help with Lithium battery?
Hi All I have a Narada Lithium battery (48V 100ah) connected to a hybrid inverter. It has been used for about a year and half now for load shedding backup purposes. In the last 3/4 months I have noticed the SOC on the batteries own internal BMS screen is gradually dropping down even-though the float voltage is maintained correctly as per specification. It drops about a 1% a week. The manual states 51,75V for float and 54V for charge I tried a test discharge a while back all the way down to cutt-off voltage and that did reset the SOC back to 100% upon recharge, however subsequently it started gradually dropping down again and is on 89% at present. The latest discharge and charge cycles have not worked to reset SOC back to 100% What is going on? Should I be worried? Time for a warranty claim?

Is there a link between the Inge & Sunsynk?
Hi NJS, I have a Sunsynk inverter. To my knowledge the INGE inverter is an alternatively branded version of the Sunsynk. The hardware is the same and all of them are manufactured by Ningbo Deye Inverter in China with the following branded variants - INGE, Sunsynk, DEYE, OHm, and Sol-Ark.

Neutral/Earth bonding relay Goodwe ES inverters
One could use a contactor as you suggest with a 60 second time delay on or off auxiliary add on. Then no need to get a signal from inverter.

Neutral/Earth bonding relay Goodwe ES inverters
Thanks, I don't think my Sunsynk inverter will work properly with permanently bridged neutrals.?? It had a serious load power measurement issue until recently, which was resolved when we sorted out some common neutrals and earth fault problems between backup and non backup circuits etc. I am thinking about going the contractor route to link earth and inverter output neutral. At least the risk of non-compliance with SANS is reduced to 60 seconds only while inverter synchronises to the grid before reconnecting. Load shedding seems to be a distant memory at the moment. Apparently Sunsynk are working on something to resolve this issue. It might be in a software update which can send a signal to control a relay. But where does one find a relay which would accept such a signal?
