The same as it would on a generator. IF you want a COC you need a changeover switch between the house & the sub generation input, i.e. it is there to change back to Eskom when needed.

Sadly many sparkies won't touch solar systems. AC and DC is completely different and most of them don't know how to work with DC systems. The SANS regulations are clear on how the wiring should be done though, but ends on the AC side. And then it has some regulations in terms of safety for the batteries and DC connections, but it doesn't tell them how to work on DC based equipment.

Get one that suits you needs. Keep in mind it is not approved by CoCT to use on grid with PV panels connected to it. But it's fine for Offgrid use, or as a UPS. Which one to get? What are your needs? Start there first.

Not at all. You will hardly ever get 100% production so the extra few Watts help a bit. In fact, you can add about 20% more PV power as well.

It's perfectly normal. Some MPPT's have circuits that prevent this, some don't. If you disconnnect your panels from the MPPT at night you could even read a few millivolt coming from them.

This isn't always possible, or desirable. The way I see it, the interlocking manual change over should come in here on the highlighted part? Can @Rautenk or @Fuenkli perhaps comment on this as well? It would help a great deal, for many people, who haven't done installations yet to know what can be expected and not waste money unnecessarily.

On the Goodwe the end user can change this. So will CoCT still accept the 4.6Kw inverters, with the exception that the installer limit the grid output to 3.5Kw?

Can you, or someone in Cape Town confirm on this? This is only applicable to normal or hybrid inverters. Hybrid Grid-Tie inverters only has one cable connecting to the grid, and then another connecting to the backup load. So would it then be fine to put a changeover on the backup load circuit, in order to change back to Eskom in case of inverter / battery maintenance? My logic says that should be fine, but will they accept it?

That's one in a million doing that. And I am sure many people here will vouch for how well they work. My own personal inverter has been running since 2015.

Hi Columb, Ok, I haven't had to take these boards out yet.I would have at least thought that if two pins need to be connected, they would connect it on the track? And the one small chip, on the first photo on the left, seem to have some solder splutter between the 3rd and 4th pin, which doesn't look like an intentional solder bridge.
