  1. I am living in Paarl and grid tie and feedings back. As long as my rates & taxes account does not show a + at their financial year end all is good. The reason is that they are not geared for actually paying out money to ratepayers and then I will have to declare it as income and then pay tax on it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. @plonkster - what do you mean it is not meant for wind? I have Quattro with Eskom in and 48v battery bank. If I want Turbine to charge batteries how will I need to configure Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Does anybody know whether the Victron Quattro can handle a Wind Turbine input? Is there a separate charge controller needed or does it plug straight into the Victron? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. Victor on is behaving itself very nicely. Now I am trying to get a monitoring solution sourced and installed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Who did your Schneider installation? I have had a bit of a nightmare with a certain installer calling themselves experts Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I can get both these products at about the same price for the monitoring of 2x Schneider RL5000's. Both seem to do about the same thing. The second is a Schneider product and the first is a 3rd party product. Does anybody have an opinion on which product to select. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. Thanks@plonkster. Overall seems like a pretty nifty LBB (little blue box). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Any opinions on this monitoring product? Seems as if one can connect the Quattro and the BMV 700/2 and the charge controller to this one unit for monitoring purposes. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. In looking at options to monitor both the Victron and the Schneiders I have come accross a product called the Solar-Log 1200 at www.solar-log.co.za. The website says that it can link to ALL inverters but in checking this fact with a local suplier they state the following: "Victron is one of a handful of inverters that uses RS232 protocol. The rest all use either RS422 or RS485. Solar-Log wanted its product to be compatible with the biggest range of inverters and thus went for RS422/485 combination. Imeon, for instance has recently changed their inverter from RS232 to RS485 to fall into what seems to becoming the industry standard for inverters". Any Comment?
  10. I would like to minotor my 2 x Schneider RL5000s so looked at the Conext Monitor 20 but have just received a quote for R20,760.00 excl VAT and excl cables. http://cdn.solar.schneider-electric.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Conext-RL-Monitoring-Options-Application-Note.pdf It does not make sense. Why is it so difficlut to monitor this stuff?
  11. @TTT - The BMV-700 connects to the Victron. If I now get the USB MK2 dongle which also connects to the Victron Quattro, will I be able to get to the battery stats and monitor them via the Quattro OR do I need to connect to the BMV-700 directly Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. Thanks. Phoned and emailed Rudolph there. He had no knowledge of Schneider Conext 20 but said he will find out.
  13. Cool thanks. Which shop can I buy the other two products from? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. Yes, the MK2 is the unit. I also need a 2 meter network cable from the Victron to the Laptop Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. I am prepared to pay somebody or put money into a pot for S/W that can monitor all my kit and display dashboards like Manie's pictures above Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. A Schneider Conext Monitor 20 and cables to connect two Schneider RL5000s units to the web for monitoring A USB dongle en cable to connect a Victron Quatro to my laptop for monitoring
  17. I like those. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. @Carl - unfortunately the install is only 10 days old. I have not connected any data collection device to it. It was a sunny day and from the previous day's I remember the 20 panels putting out between 2800 - 3100 watt around that time for my DC1 and the same for my DC2. They are 5kw units each. I can not imagine there being much of a load that time of the day. Schneider SA phoned me last night and asked loads of questions and will do autopsy once the unit is back with them. I can then report again. What is interesting is that my installer had a fuse on each incoming cable but there is no breaker. There is no way to kill power from an solar bank. The fuse in this instance did not blow. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. Had a close call today. Was supposed to be on business trip but due to public holiday on Wednesday it was cancelled. Wife was out and I was busy outside when the domestic comes running and saying the "box is on fire". Domestic only comes twice a week btw. Ran inside and there are flames coming out the bottom of the one Schneider. I flip the breaker on the DB board and run for the fire extinguisher. As I got back to the unit the flame was just going out. Unit was commissioned 10 days ago. Phoned the installer and they rush somebody out who says there was a short inside the unit. They are shipping a new unit and when that goes in they will send this unit to the suppliers. If I was on business trip and domestic was not in I am sure I could have lost my house in a fire. 20. Back to report on the Victron. The problem in the end was the software setup. The unit came from the supplier set with a 40 Amp max power setting before it cuts out. The installer ramped it up to 100 Amps even though there is 140Amps printed in big bold letters on the front. Also, the low battery alarm was set at 49 volts for the batteries. The installer changed the setting but I am not sure to what. Now I need to get that USB dongle so that I can manage the Victron myself. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  21. How about adding Schneider. I have 2 x 5kW units that I am still trying to figure out how to connect my laptop to Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  22. So then you have to buy the Rpi and a separate screen and I assume a keyboard as well. Mmmmmmmmmm - seems as if I am going to have to stick to my spare laptop that I already have. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  23. How do you access the Rpi? Is it via a WiFi connect pc or does it need its own screen and keyboard? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  24. @superdiy - yes the Smart Meter is in the courtyard outside at the connection point where Escom comes into the property.
  25. The cable runs from the two Schneider units will require 2 x 7m cables and to connect to the Victron will require 1 x 1m cable. I am assuming all three units connects at the same time.
