Posted December 13, 20213 yr Hi all, Im new to this scene. I have a friend who has installed quite a few systems. He swears by victron and has done installs with mostly Victron. I do like the flexibility that victron offers, but its so expensive compared to other systems. From what I have seen, i dont want to get an axpert type inverter. Im possibly looking at a sunsync 5kw inverter. Does anyone know if its possible to oversize the PV with this sunsync inverter? is the general consensus about sunsync good? i want to use if for backup for loadshedding and also save money long term with the PV. December 13, 20213 yr AFAIK, you can oversized PV as long as you don't exceed the MPPT Volts ~425V Solar Input Max power input – 6500W Max V DC input – 370V (100V~500V) Max current input – 11A + 11A MPPTs – 2 MPPT Range – 125~425V So about 7 or 8 of 48V panels per string per MPPT and you have 2.
December 13, 20213 yr Author Thanks you. I could also use some advice if a sunsynk 5kw inverter will be enough. Assuming a get all 6500w of panels and possibly oversize it for winter time. Will it be big enough for me to save most of my eskom bills? (provided I buy a big enough batttey system for the night time). Or do I need to get a 8kw inverter?
December 14, 20213 yr I run a 5kw Sunsynk with 7kwh of Pylontech batteries and 16 455w JA solar panels . My usage/production ranges from 20-39kwh per day, saving 90% on my power bill at the moment. In terms of oversizing solar ,i would say its worthit up to a point . With my 7,2kw east /west split array i have 5kw of solar available from maybe 9:30am-4pm ish . I started with 10 of these panels and in peak winter it was producing about 7-12kwh per day. After adding more panels and getting the voltages on the mppts up i saw a major improvement in the watts generated per panel. So ideally you want to run 8-9 panels in a string .

It works for me, I just have to make sure I don't switch oven, kettle, microwave and heat pump at the same time otherwise it will trip. If you have the money, go for the 8kw, you won't have to worry about overloading the inverter. I could have put the stove on the grid circuit but I may want to use it during load shedding. Based on the graphs above, I don't think you need anything bigger than 5kw. The Sunsynk can power loads that don't go through the inverter as well by use of a CT coil, obviously not during loadshedding. Edited December 14, 20213 yr by phidz
December 14, 20213 yr Author Thanks, the 8kw is out off my budget. So I'll go for the 5kw. Can you guys suggest a good place to buy the inverter and panels at the moment? I know pv is crazy expensive at the moment!
December 14, 20213 yr Try Elleyhill Power, they have lots of panels, inverters and batteries. various types and sizes. I've been there last week to service my inverters and I saw lot's in they warehouse. Also my opinion and I know there are very different opinions with regards to equipment. I like Growatt inverters, I have 2 X 5 KW 5000 ES and a 100 AH LBSA battery and I'm very happy with the performance. You can get two 5 KW inverters connect them in parallel = 10 KW for the price of 1 of 8KVA, again just my humble opinion. Edited December 14, 20213 yr by Antonio de Sa

July 7, 20222 yr Hi Antonio You mentioned Elleyhill. Do you have a contact number as I can't get hold of them. Thanks
