Axpert install help

Featured Replies

Hey all,

So i started working on my diy solar setup and think I am starting to get somewhere

Axpert 5000 80a 145v one.

8x330w solar panels in strings of 2 (Planning to get another 330w and do 3 stings of 3 later )

DIY combinder box still looking at getting a busbar that will fit between the fuses.

2x pylontech us3000c

Keto 125a battery disconnect

1xEarth Neutral bridge box

And then a db ready board for after inverter.

I have everything connected exept for the Earth Neutral bridge box.

I am a bit confused on how to connect this one to the setup and dont want to blow the relay or worse.

Any one here have one installed that can provide a bit more info on wiring it up?

Some photos below this is the db after inverter I have a seprate braker in the main db comming in to the inverter direcly.

Please let me know if i am still missing something here as well.

I still need to earth my pannels as well as it currently is not and not sure what the best method would be.

Hi Riaan, glad you took the plunge and had the courage to start this. The Earth to Neutral relay is not a requirement if this is a genuine Voltronics machine. The Inverter has this inbuilt. In the event of a fault the Inverter will tie Neural to earth. Effectively what the Relay you are installing will do.

On the question on Earth Bonding for your panels. The panels can be earthed to an external earth spike.

Just a word of warning with the 145V Axpert and panels in strings of 3. I have read that going over 120V Voc is not recommended and can lead to damage of the inverter. Remember that the panels are tested at 25C, so if you live somewhere with cold, frosty mornings, you can end up with a very high Voc spike. Just be sure you have a good safety margin to that 145V.

Here one must look at the specs of the panels. Not all 330W panels have a Voc around 50V. I was interested in some 330W and they had a Voc of 42V. The 3 in series would be OK with some margin. Also one needs to look if in warmer/colder parts of the country.

Just FYI a 42V Voc panel at 25C, with a temp coefficient of 0.3%/C [0.126V/C per panel] will have a 45.15V Voc at 0C and 3 in series will take you to 135.45V Voc

The max voltage off the mppt is 145 volt. The important spec is the mppt range 60v - 115v. Bi staying in the range the best solar output will be achieved.
