September 10, 20223 yr Hi there, I'm busy renovating a new pad and have the opportunity to fit a completely new water heating system. I'm keen to install a heat pump, as I've has decent savings from the heating setup at our current house. Split between fitting a traditional HP setup (i.e Alliance or ITS of +- 5kW output) with 200L of storage OR the 200L integrated unit from EMS, which seems to offer a decent efficiencies, simple installation. Does anyone have one of these EMS/Magneto units installed? Looking for informed input/opinions. Thanks!
December 9, 20223 yr Afternoon I have purchased one of your units; can this be installed outside and if so, should it be covered to protect from rain etc. I note that the top has two openings. Thanks Gavin

November 29, 20232 yr Hi All, I am the newly appointed sale rep form magneto thermals - Hendrik Grobler. I have picked up on a lot of questions on various forums regarding the ThermoTank that I would like to address here. Firstly, everybody is concerned about the performance of the unit, especially winter months - to which I have not found a reply. We have done several field tests on the unit, namely: The 200L ThermoTank was installed at a resort villa and tested against a 200L conventional geyser with a 3kW in the adjacent villa. Over the course of 23 June 2023 until 21 July 2023 weekly measurements of the kilowatt readers and water meters were taken. The field test used a total of 20 000L of hot water between the two hot water systems. - which verified that, when compared to a conventional 200l geyser under similar operating conditions, there is a saving of between 55-60% in winter. This scales to upwards of 70% in warmer conditions in summer. Some additional asked questions that I would like to answer: 1. Can unit be installed outside? - Yes, it can be installed outside. Flex duct can be put on the unit to avoid mass water or to keep leaves out (Keep top side clean). 2. Standing losses: Mid-winter test was completed and tank only lost 4°C, overnight over a 9 to 12hr period. 3. Thermal storage - the preinstalled 2kW backup element is there is the heat pump should fail. However, this is also there to boost the system to 70°C for those that want a little bit extra, or for those with Solar PV system who have extra kW's they like to use. If anyone has any questions regarding this product, please feel free to make contact with me directly on 062 026 2274 or [email protected] and I will address. Kind Regards, Hendrik Grobler
January 5, 20242 yr Hi Nick. We are plumbing contractors in Cape Town that mainly focus on new high-end builds and were looking at alternatives to solar heating or indirect heat pumps because any new build has to have 50% green/alternative water heating and found these Magneto units to be just that. We have installed roughly 40 units in Cape Town over the last 18 months and have had minimal issues. Please have a look at the installs we have done on our website. https://www.superplumb.co.za/magento-thermal-tank
January 9, 20242 yr @Willem Van Niekerk hi the pictures answered my question of installing the units inside or in the roof. You install ducting to get the air in and out. The pictures look great. What does the service look like once a year? How much?
April 4, 20242 yr I found that installing the units in doors such as a garage especially in coastal environments helps to dehumidify the garage as the heat pumps draws out moisture from the air, however the cold air has to be ducted out doors to avoid the heat pump to cavitate. Installing it on the roof is fine however inside the roof or ceiling is challenging especially when it comes to servicing and repairs. Servicing usually is only to clean the heat pump head once a year and to make sure the evaporator coil is clean. It shouldn't cost an arm or leg for servicing, air con technicians should be able to service it the same time as when you service the airconditioners in your house.
April 9, 20242 yr With only one year warranty if living in the vicinity of the ocean, this unfortunately becomes a far less attractive option that a traditional heat pump unit.

Kind Regards, Hendrik Grobler @Hendrik Grobler Hi Hendrik In this video Franco Diederiks mentions that this unit is a plug and play unit and that anyone with a bid of experience can install it. Can you confirm that the home owner with plumbing experience can install this unit and that the warranty will still be valid. Thanks.
August 26, 20241 yr Hi all Just reviving this thread for some feedback from owners of the Magneto/EMS tanks. Thanks

What pressure at shower head level are you looking at if installed on ground level for a double story house? Im considering this instead of a solar geyser and instead using the roof space for additional solar pannels. Opinion on this option?

The hot water used is at the same high pressure as the supply from the authority or feed pump. The low pressure refers to the heating side from the heat pump. This is how I see it. I am open to corrections.
