So no chance of 148A for more than 15s ( given 180A peak for 15s spec )

No idea its very hard to see spikes like that in the logging data as it happens so quick . I just put less loads on the UPS side .

Fair enough. Just trying to get a gauge if I could say boil a 2kw kettle with a microwave running including a base load of say 500w. If the sunsynk will limit to 74A (through BMS limit) I don’t see the point of the 148A or 180A specs.

Has anyone had any experience with the very new AM-5?

Voltex has stock of them for R~31000 which seems pretty good.

I am leaning towards this now or the Sunsynk battery if I can find the correct BYD model at a decent price.

The Greenrich is new on Market, have had mine for over 2 weeks now with the constant loadshedding and so far it has worked amazing. Have not had an issues and that with Washing machines running, boiling kettle etc.

So far so good.

Why not give them a call?

I'm sure I read on here a few days ago that someone was struggling to get that info from them. But thanks I will try.

From past experience, WhatsApp is good, especially for a quick question. You have to consider that with the current load shedding situation (and projections of the next 2-5 years) they are kind of swamped, so phone call is the best (but there is contention), email is reasonably reliable (but can be put off), but WhatsApp is a happy medium between the two.

Edit: Sunsynk use both BYD and CATL cells AFAIK, and both are good, from two of the largest cell manufacturers in the world.  I am not sure which of them are on the PowerForumStore menu though, but the guys will know.

All seem to be 0.5C nominal and 1C max. Even the new BYD is 0.5C

This is concerning. I am holding out for a Sunsynk BYD battery to get the extended warranty but if the BMS limits it to 50A I will rather get the AM-5!

I am thinking exactly like you. I really wanted the sunsynk batteries but I also want true 1C. I will probably also go with AM5 if they are available.

Limiting batteries to 0.5C is a good way to make your purchase 2 batteries to get the 5kw.

Its also a good way to get a much longer lifespan and cycles, running these batteries at 1C or 1,5C like some batteries now claim creates tremendous amounts of heat and heat kills your battery much faster.

This post and your previous post confuse me as they seem to contradict one another. Could you perhaps expand a bit?

Edit: oh wait, I see now you are talking about manufacturers seemingly incentivising consumers to buy a second battery. I think this view is disingenuous as it ignores the technical reasons for limiting discharge to 0.5C.

I understand that batteries will probably last twice as long at 0.5C.

Makes you wonder then if you should even run a claimed 1C battery at 1C.

Its just I see a lot of people buying 5kw inverters with 1 battery. If its a 0.5C battery then they only going to get 2.5kw. Not sure if most people even realise that.

The point is to not cycle them at 1C daily but to have the capability to do it for short periods to avoid it tripping. Voltex AM5 price has jumped to R38k from R31k on Monday when I called and they had 64 in stock. Now I  don’t know what to buy anymore. My inverter is sitting there in its box just waiting ;)

Check voltex Cape Town if purchasing online. They were still R31k yesterday.
