October 15, 20223 yr Did an installation for a client who purchased these “cheap” Canadian solar 540w panels. When I measured the length, it was 1750mm instead of the normal 2200mm, so I thought maybe it’s new technology. While my guys were busy on the roof, I decided to check Canadian Solar’s website. No such panel. The client got them off a guy from Facebook. Normally when I measure Voc on 6 x 540W Canadian, it measures 276v. This was 217V. Then I looked at the sticker at the back. Complete copy. He was getting 1000w ar 2pm. Needless to say the client was hacked off.
October 15, 20223 yr That is crazy, biggest issue currently in the market, you hope you get the product that you paid for. Sad to see something like this

Sad to see something like this PV has become a very risky sector to buy when not knowing it is a longer time trusted source. Still very sad to see this happening.
November 2, 20223 yr I wish people would post who they bought things from that are possibly fake etc. Then we know who to stay away from.. anyone know of the company who these panels were bought from and what price he paid etc etc?

You would end up with a very long list, especially if you include the facebookers. Rather focus on stores that are legit and that give good pricing and service, like The Powerforum Store.
November 2, 20223 yr Yeah, I had and installer bring and inverter in for repairs. Turns out they were using cheap flea market panels that burnt out the MPPT (PV voltage was over 150V on an Axpert 3kW), the caps were fried and the board smelled horrible... What's that Afrikaans saying? "Goedkoop is duurkoop." In this case, while she saved a couple hundred bucks on panels, the repairs cost her like 2 grand. Moral of the story, we have plenty of reputable distributors in ZA... Don't play that risky game, pay a little more and know you aren't getting crap products that don't match their specifications.
