Buy Batteries

Featured Replies

Hi guys. Thanks for the acceptance. Seems like a real nice Forum to belong to. In the market for a total of ± 10kW Lithium bank. Don't want to buy just one, rather 2-3 for in case soemthing happens then at least I'm not totally off like with Eishkom.
Looking at 2 off these:
Hubble Lithium AM-2 48V 5.5kWh – PVStore
Something else you guys can suggest? Good and reliable will obviously be 1st price.
Thanks so much.

What are your requirements iro discharge rates?

An important piece of information. Also, what inverter are you going to use the batteries with?

I ask because if you take my inverter (Goodwe ES), the most it can send to or draw from the battery is 4.6kW, so I can never use the high discharge rate that some batteries offer, and so I have more choices, maybe cheaper choices.

Which explains why I have that nice, 1C, Freedom Won battery with a big discharge current that I can never use 🤔

General question: What is the deal with Hubble and RIOT? Do you HAVE to use RIOT? Is there a cost to that?

Edited by Bobster.
Changed "CloudLink" to "RIOT"

Just read the forum. There are many threads that address this matter.

Here is their marketing and money making write up:

"The Hubble Cloudlink is an optional add-on to the Hubble X and AM range of products. As long as the device is connected to Wi-Fi it will cloud all battery and inverter data to our cloud-server enabling users to remotely monitor their power system."

At a cost of an additional R3000+ Hubble will be able to remotely check the state of your battery and do remote firmware updates, or so they claim.
Originally you could access all battery data including SOH. Reading the forum, that has been discontinued, i.e. it seems Hubble doesn't want their paying customers to know the SOH anymore. Furthermore I have seen forum members who were told by Hubble if they read access the battery data with 3rd party software they will void your warranty. It's a money making scam if you ask me.

The Goodwe software will report SOH that is reported to it by the BMS over the comms cable. That's nothing devious, it's just what the BMS reports. Unless the BMS now doesn't report that over CAN.

In fact, if they're saying that use of 3rd party software is not allowed, then all the data must be available via CAN. And surely most inverters are going to just faithfuilly report what the BMS tells them?

Unless they had a customer who rolled his own and that caused them some grief. In which case they act restrictively to protect their BMS and their reputation.

Get 2 x Pylontech UP5000 or greenrich UP5000 and thank me later. They are 4.8kwh batteries but will do the job. I would stay very far away from the AM-2, search the forum and you will see why

Not so sure about the greenrich as they are very new , but you cant go wrong with pylontech.
