May 13, 20233 yr I have a brand new Volta Stage 1 and Deye 5kW inverter installed a week ago. After running fine for a few days, the battery stops charging when power to the grid returns. It has happened twice now, each time the battery discharged to 93% and when the grid returns it stays in Stand By mode and does not charge until I switch the battery off and on again. Anyone experienced this before or have any ideas what the problem could be?
May 15, 20233 yr Are both your installs connected with the correct comms cables and pinouts? You'll need to show us how the inverter and battery are setup
May 18, 20233 yr I have the same issue with 5kW Sunsynk and 10kWh Volta. The BMS appears to not accept charge when the battery discharges slowly from 99%. So even with config set to 100% SOC and available solar and mains, it does not charge. When it does charge is when it is doing rapid recharge from say 60% with 4kW solar input power. Then it gets to 100% (or 99%). Comms cable is working fine and all battery parameters are being reported.
May 18, 20233 yr Here is an example of what happens. Battery at 100%, load shedding occurs taking battery slowly down to 92%, then mains returns (yellow) and battery does not charge to 100% eventhough it is specifically configured to do so.
May 18, 20233 yr And here is what happens in daytime. Solar (green) charged it to 100%. Thereafter battery is used to make up shortfall in solar power every now and again. As you can see the PV production is closely tracking the load (red) which indicates it has spare PV power available between the load spikes, yet it is not used to charge the battery.
June 15, 20233 yr Having the same issue with a newly installed Deye 8k and two Volta 1 batteries. When coming back out of loadshedding neither grid not PV charges the batteries. The battery state shows charging but the actually % doesn’t change at all. Anyone seen a resolution to this issue ?
June 22, 20233 yr Same issue,2 x 5kW Deye inverters in parralel ( firmware is latest available), with 2 x 5 kWh Volta S1. Full system restart only temporarily solves the issue. Suspect the BMS firmware but I cannot find any fw info on the interwebs
June 22, 20233 yr Is the comms working ok on these installs with the Volta Edited June 22, 20233 yr by mzezman

Hi RoyB1 What is your battery work mode settings because it could be your settings?
August 7, 20232 yr Good day We also have a Volta Stage 1 5kW battery and a Deye 5kW inverter. The battery charges to 100%. When is discharges below 100%, it does not charge again, even if there is enough solar. The solar production is then equal to the home consumption, even though there is enough solar to charge the battery as well. As the consumption goes up, the production goes up, and if consumption goes down, the production goes down, but the battery is not charged. The moment the battery is discharged to 90%, it gets charged again. The installers of our plant confirmed it is not a setting, and there is some other issue. Could you assist with the possible cause of this?
August 21, 20232 yr Hi! I have same issue with a 8kw deye and 2 x volta stg1’s installed 2 days ago. No solar yet. Grid only charges batteries to 91%. Anyone figured something out yet? Thanks
September 20, 20232 yr Hi guys, Just checking in if anybody has found a fix for this yet? My manual fix is to deplete the battery (battery, kettle and geyser on) to 90% to trigger the charging again. That's obviously not sustainable though. I don't actually mind if it stayed at 95%, but when it just gets stuck at 91%, that's kinda frustrating.
October 18, 20232 yr I am having the same issue with my 5kW Deye inverter paired with a Volta Stage 1 battery installed back in August 2023, using it as a UPS i.e. no PV power... It has been over the weeks slowly decreasing its maximum SOC, I noticed it a week ago it was at 95%, several days later its only charging to 94%, now 2 days ago its only charging to 93%. I arranged for the supplier to come do a firmware update in situ but that has not resolved the problem.
October 23, 20232 yr Just some feedback on the issue I had with my Volta Stage 1 battery and my 5kW Deye inverter. The battery supplier came again but this time to install the latest firmware V1553 and that appears to have solved the problem.

I took my battery out and install on the 14th after software upgrade and recharge. Today it already starts dropping again it is now on 96%. It drops about 1% per week
October 27, 20232 yr Do you mind sharing which supplier did this? I have this exact issue at every place I’ve installed Deye/Volta and getting support from anyone to fix this issue has been tremendously difficult. With the uptick in sales of this battery, they should post their firmwares online.

Does it work fine on the Growatt and Luxpower inverters?

We haven't tried it with any other combo actually. Mostly stick to deye/sunsynk in CT. My reason however for believing its the BMS was that in every case, the BMS is setting the charge current limit to 0 on the inverter. It will charge to 100% then slowly trickle down as the inverter moves load between solar and battery. Once under 90% it will begin charging again. If I cycle the battery at any time before it gets to 90%, it begins charging again. Where this hasn't happened though, is where a sunsynk battery has been used. 🤷♂️

Could be a comms issue between the inverter & BMS or could be an issue with the BMS. What if you remove the comms and run the battery with manual voltage settings, does it then charge to 100% and remain at 100% ?
December 24, 20232 yr Installed Dye with Volta Stage 1 battery, no panels. It initially charged to 100%. Then it kept charging at about 0.03 Kw and battery kept showing 100%. 2 days later the battery went dead at 51.9 Volts = 30% with grid power on. So obviously wasn’t charging. Firstly why did it show 100% and then went dead and secondly how can I wake the battery up again and recharge. Help would be much appreciated.
December 25, 20232 yr You will need to put your inverter config here to see if there is an obvious issue Deye has the activate battery function you can use to try recover a completely flat battery. I’d check if your BMS is communicating correctly with the inverter. If you tap on the battery on the Home Screen, then bottom right for LiBmS. You should see the battery values there otherwise it’s a coms issue and you need to check your installation

The engineer came around to sign off this installation 2 weeks ago and we powered down the entire system for him to do his thing. Since powering it all back up, this behaviour has stopped. The site reaches and sits at 100% charge for the day. No idea why, maybe something to do with cells balancing or ??. We had power cycled this whole setup before, not sure why now it’s fine.
