September 29, 20232 yr Hi there all, I need some advice - we we’re quoted on a 5kW Sunsynk, 5.32kW battery, and x6 425W solar panels. The oaks never came out to do a site assessment, and now only realised that my roof won’t be able to fit 6 panels on one side. He plans to do 3 panels North & 3 panels South, and parallel the two strings together down to the DC combiner. Can this work, as I am not sure if the MPPT ranges match. Can anyone please give me some advice. Thank you.
September 29, 20232 yr Do you perhaps have a google earth view of your roof showing north. And just to confirm you are in SA right, because i want to make the statement that; if you dont have specific needs for either morning, afternoon useage. then, Ideally all North, second best would be North+East split (if you draw battery at night), North+ West. Heck, you could even have 1 string North on an MPPT , and an East/West split on the other MPPT South is the worst yield (if any depending on your panel angles) Very general comments, but the key, is south isnt great
September 29, 20232 yr A few problems , 3 panels is not enough voltage to start up the MPPT(you need atleast 4 but preferably atleast 5),secondly you dont want to be paralleling any panels on just a 13 A MPPT unless the panels are super small and you have a good east west type split for the roof. lastly you dont want to be putting up any panels facing south in south africa...
September 29, 20232 yr Just here to echo what the esteemed users above have said. South is a big No No in SA / southern hemisphere - your literally throwing away money and production. Min 4 panels per MPPT . North is best, else East / West. Any installer worth their salt should know this

If that is the only option 3 North and 3 South it is going to be a waste but they will have to connect the 2 string on diffrent Mppt otherwise you will have poor solar production and the Vmp might be too low.Maybe send us a picture of your roof and we might come up with a better way of fitting the panels. Previous replies already spelled it out. A picture with estimated spacing will be a good thing to provide any workable input. If it was another inverter 3 panels per side could work well. For this one would still select an inverter with 2xMPPTs.
September 29, 20232 yr Is the inverter already fitted in place, or is it still in the box? Maybe a good option could be to go with a different inverter with a lower start-up Voltage, and let them sell the Sunsynk to a different buyer, which I'm sure won't be hard to find. I've been suggesting this Solis S6 a few times lately, not because I have any experience of it, but on paper the specs seem to meet the needs of the situation (to be cross-checked against panel's Voc spec). Start-up Voltage of 90V could help you to get some use from the North-facing panels if you fit as many as you can get on it, but your generation on a South-facing panel is going to be a waste regardless if you feed it into one MPPT each, and to parallel two strings of 3 facing North and South is a whole new level of silliness.
