fivestar bms protocol

Featured Replies

Currently I have my inverter manually setup for voltage parameters, but I'd prefer to use the battery bms to manage charging / discharging. Does anyone know what protocol five star uses on its bms? I've tried 0 and 1 but both seem to error out

im using a MUST 5kw hybrid inverter and 10khw fivestar battery

Refer also to this post from last year that is still unanswered.

Unless someone opens up one of these batteries to determine what physical BMS they use, the protocol remains a mystery.

In the absence of your supplier or Fivestar having any documentation, your best bet remains to apply the USE mode with the recommended voltage settings and let the BMS manage the charge and discharge process the way it's designed to do.

The only thing you will miss out on is the percentage indication of the SOC.

In the meantime you could send a mail to Solar Assistant at  [email protected] and ask them if they have any intention of ever supporting Fivestar, perhaps they have investigated already?

hmmm sooo... I spent some time on this last night. I configured all the voltages as per battery spec on the inverter, then I set the inverter to use SOC and bms protocol as  0 and now it all seems to be working

Fivestar 48170 uses Pace P16S120A-31057-1.00 BMS

Can be accessed with Pbmstools software Password 123456

Cable needed are a USB to rs232 and a RS232/sub DB9 to rj11

 Link to the bigger BMS.

The OP's question remains. Which of his MUST Inverter BMS protocol will be able to communicate with the BMS.
In the absence of that information, voltage control will be fine as long as the voltages are in line with the battery specs.
Only thing he will miss out on is accurate SOC percentages, i.e. it will only show the normal 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100%
If he can find a protocol within the MUST program menu for a battery with the same BMS, then that would be one to give a try. AFIK the Pace BMS uses Pylontech protocol, but I stand to be corrected

Thanks for this info. I purchased 2 cheap SunMagic 150Ah batteries to test out, and apparently, they are also manufactured by FiveStar.

Though the booklet that came with is exactly the same as the Felicity Solar battery, it actually has a Pace bms in.

After much battling using the Felicity BMS wiring, I wired up using the Pace, and voila.....all good.

Fivestar isn't a manufacturer or ODM. They're just rebranding existing products from other ODMs

Yep, I actually know that. I should have stated that the Fivestar and Sunmagic batteries are made by the same manufacturer. (rumoured to be Felicity solar)

hi

can you elaborate on what you did to get it working ?

this is all fascinating, but far beyond what im asking. All I need is to know what protocol number I must select on my inverter in order to communicate with the battery. I had it on protocol 0, but although it shows no errors, it seems like its not actually working because the battery never charges

could you share a link to the bms software please?

I purchased the Pace RS232 USB to RJ11 cable from SolarAssistant, Loaded BMS Tools HS2.03 (Any PBMS Tools software works)

The ethernet cable used for master and slave is a normal straight-through network cable.

Try protocol 12
