May be a silly question. What has the experience been on power generation on Cloudy days ?

It all depends on the cloud thickness, thin clouds have a small effect, with thick dark clouds it can go down to close to zero. 

Like @DeepBass9 said, it depends on the thickness of the clouds.

I can say that I've only experienced thick cloud cover like that twice this summer, and we have had quite a bit of rain. Our avg cloudy and rainy days bring our solar generation capacity to about 50%-70%. 

Lucky we live in sunny South Africa. When I started with solar and was monitoring quite closely I found that for my location the winter, spring and summer had the least cloud interference, but autumn there were quite a lot of hazy/misty days that impacted solar production.

An overcast day in the Western Cape generally reduces output by 90%, ie you only get 10% of the normal amount.

HI All, as this is a solar thread.......

We live on a farm outside Ceres. I have a flat slightly west pitching roof over my farm office. Would this work for Solar panels? New to this whole deal...... I've purchased a Axpert 5kva and 2 48v Pylontech Batteries to get me through the load shedding times, but I thought let me see if it wont be worth it going full solar on at least the light load stuff like computers, lights etc. 

 

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. If there is a thread that I can read all about solar panels, please send me that way and I apologize.

Also looking for a solar company to install in the area. 7km outside Ceres.

Ja, but over a one year period, Cape Town gets more irradiation than say Gauteng. 🙂
