I have a 36 v microcare inverter. I used lead acid batteries on it but the batteries need to be replaced. I want to know If I can replace it with lithium or not. I don't want to buy a new 48 v inverter that I know is compatible.

Probably best to ask Microcare for their recommendation

36V is likely 3*12. You don't say where you are. If you're in Randburg/Midrand/North of Johannesburg or even Centurion contact Maiden Electronics in Kyalami. I reccommend them simply because this is their game and they give good service.

for 36v you could probably get a lifepo4 golfcart battery if you do not want to DIY the battery.
Or 3 12V lifepo4 batteries.

Basically yes. But it depends if you can adjust the battery charge management parameters in the inverter to suit LFP specifications.

You don't mention the inverter model, but a quick check on Microcare's website shows that they have 1, 2, or 3 kW bi-directional inverters than run off 12V, 24V or 36V batteries. The website also state:

• "Built in, high rate, two-stage battery charger

• Li-Ion Compatible"

This implies to me that these inverters were designed to be run off lead acid batteries, but that they are also compatible with lithium ion batteries.

Their user manual also has a wiring diagram for connecting to a Freedom Won battery with BMS (i.e. a li-Ion battery...). You will have to confirm if they sell 36V Li-Ion batteries, and if your inverter is modern enough to communicate with the battery's BMS.
