solar shopping

Recommended Posts

Morning folks, admin please remove if not acceptable.

I am in the market for new solar equipment, but it seems to be a minefield out there with regards to buying. Most advertisers on the net are online stores and with the amount of fraud happening it is really a daunting task. There are guys advertising products alot cheaper but my concern is after sales backup. A lot of people don't even supply an address . So can somebody please advise me where to purchase solar equipment  in the JHB \Boksburg area. I am particularly interested in the Canadian solar panels.

Regards

No disrespect to Jaco (above), but I have been using Inverter Warehouse in Meadowdale (next to OR Tambo) for about a year now with good results. In fact I just dropped another R40K on solar panels with him this week.

Their response was spotty previously, but they have expanded their operation significantly and have twice the staff now. But phone Gary directly if you have a hassle (I just know he'll thank me profusely for posting his cellphone number here... +27 82 828 7029).

It depends a bit what you buy of course, but it's always best if you have an approved reseller in the chain somewhere.

I'm going to second both the first suggestions as legit stand-up sort of places, but if you're looking at Victron equipment, Jaco has treated many of us very well and the wholesaler he uses knows the brand well (and what to do if you need support). I'm sure you're going to get very similar quotes in any case 🙂

I've found the best place to browse is sustainable.co.za . They have most of the brands and they take the trouble to link the datasheet etc. BUT, their prices are about 50% more than anywhere else, and for that pricecheck.co.za will find you the best price usually.

Agreed. They have a brilliant website for finding stuff and getting a vague idea of what it should cost. I find that they are at least 20% more than other places. BUT... they ship free in the greater Cape Town area. So when making comparisons, for those in that area, that is something to keep in mind.

No disrespect to anyone but I have tried calling Gary and he never ever returns call or answers. His pricing however is very good. Service however questionable. Might be only my experience
