I still like Ed's solution a CP2102 for 50 bucks and you do not connect the power lead you just connect RX,TX and GND. I bought this which reckons it is isolated but since it can work without pow

Hi TTT,

You know, they are worse than ... I will follow up again for I ordered 5.

They had email problems, then lady was on leave and now they have run out of stock.

She will inform me when she has stock again.

Tnx TTT,

No worries, found one here in JHB. Picking it up tomorrow.

So what is the going rate for this cable? I had so many different quotes today varying from almost cheap to the north of #%$%$ Crazy!!

Best price EVER I got them for was R199.00 ex VAT on a Black Friday sale. Bought for ALL my devices and the spares. :D

Next level up was R460.00 after a LOT of haggling, then there was no stock when I ordered 5.

Then the 'normal' price is in the vicinity of around / above R1000, i.e. the  #%$%$ Cray range.

R70 and works perfectly. You need a male female USB cable. Most of us have one lying around. Blue Energy abuse minus 50 points.

Why do you prefer the USB cable connector to the Victron as opposed to the Bluetooth connector. From what I read the USB can not connect to Apple and iPad but the Bluetooth can

The USB cable can connect to a PC giving you more options than what the Bluetooth will have on a phone

I have connected mine to Win7,8 and 10 on a tablet, laptop and Pc. Now also connected to RPi on win 10 IoT as well as a RPi using Plonksters software.

So it is versatile, depends on the software.

My feeling is that Bluetooth is to read the data easy and quick on your phone, cable is more permanent for continued connection and data uploading to website for viewing on phone in a browser etc.

Or you can ask you installer to add the parts Victron has for reading the data from BMV and Quattoro that uploads it and stores it for free on their website, where you can then use it as you want?

AICC uses the feed from the usb cable to control the Axpert inverters. With Bluetooth you will need more hardware on the other end. It should work on apple as it is a normal comm port.

Cool, I just picked up mine from Current Automation for R508 inc VAT

GOOD price, for a OEM supported device. :D

  • 2 weeks later...

That is a good price. I paid R1000 for mine.

Right where can I buy or get software that runs both 702 and Axpert together?

You can try AICC. Version 1 is free. AICC was the first software to use the Victron BMV with the Axperts as the Axpert SOC is not very good.

So I decided to combine the 2 into one

http://aicc.org.za.

We discuss on how to make it better here on the forum. http://powerforum.co.za/forum/75-aicc/

Currently working on version 2 that will be able to do a lot more.
