I recently had to replace my digital timer that controls my irrigation. 

When I went to purchase a new one I found a CBI Acute Smart Controller  which is a smart timer switch and can measure current.

Some members have mentioned the Acute in other posts. I wanted to post this controller here as if you are looking for a timer and not in the right post you might miss it.

Differences between Digital Timers and the CBI Acute Smart Controller.

Digital Timers normally have a display and can be programmed on the device to switch loads up to about 16amp resistive load. They also have a battery backup which recharges when power returns . Does not switch when power fails however it keeps the time and programs for a period of time until battery runs totally flat.

The problems with these timers is that the internal battery does not last very long (lifetime)and the limitation in switching inductive loads up to about 5amps or 7amps and resistive loads up to about 16amps or 20amps. ( It is not wise to use them at near full load). Cost about R300 to R500.

The CBI Acute Smart Controller needs the internet and a smartphone to work. There is no display on the device only a led and two buttons (power and clear) This device uses the CBI home app or the smart life app(tested and works). The device needs to be in your Wi-Fi range. There are problems with using  a Microtik router.

The biggest problem is when the internet is down, however you can still switch the unit with a pushbutton on the unit if there is power.

The device can switch up to 30amps resistive load or 10amp inductive load. It can also be programmed on your smartphone as long as you are connected to Wi-Fi.  It also can be used to see the current used and KWh. Cost about R350 to R550.

This device is great alternative to using a digital timer or a Sonoff switch and can be fitted onto CBI or Din rail in your DB.

Great for pool and geyser timer  for switching and to monitor power remotely at low cost.

Been using them on geyser and pool pump since they came out last year.

My ASC switches off everytime there is load shedding ... bit of a pain because it is inked to my lights in the house (use it to switch lights on/off when we are on holiday) ... I have to press the button after load shedding to get the lights to work. 

Tried to connect one of site the other day ... just out of range ... so I fitted a standard timer.

I am trying to figue out why the ASC will not connect to a Alcatel-lucent ... I suspect the IT fellas have blocks the wifi from connecting to random devices. 

Took both units back to my workshop and they link to my wifi and my phone.
