I'm living on a small farm with no eskom power I started with a 5kw inverter but have to go bigger now. Wil the Sunsynk 8kw work in a total offgrid environment 

Yes, but you could also add a second 5kW Sunsynk in parallel to the existing one, if that is what you have and have 10kW total capacity, taking into account, of course, the panels & batteries... else both the 5kW & 8kW Sunsynk's can operate fully off grid...

 

Ja the 5kw will cover one side of the farm and the 8kw the house side

As much as I love the Sunsynk, could you not get away with something like the 7.2 kW Kodak? It comes in at a third of the price of the Sunsynk, and it doesn't seem like your need the features that make the Sunsynk so ideal in a mixed environment. 

Hi Riaan I'm sorry but for your needs a cheaper offgrid inverter would have been a better option. Expensive hybrid inverters are expensive because they give you the best of both worlds. You live in one world the offgrid world. For you the grid tied features that you paid for are of no use. There is a high demand for sunsynk inverters I would just sell it and get one of many axpert type inverters with solar and generator inputs. It will cost you much less to buy an inverter with features you need unless you hope you might have a utility grid connected at a later stage?

Totally unrelated I'm looking to buy a 5kw sunsynk if anyone finds that they don't actually need the grid tied features 😄

The you should probably stay with the Axpert King 7k2W, since Eastman Kodak had absolutely nothing to do with the design and manufacturing of the inverter sporting their name and it seems under the actual Axpert name, its somewhat less expensive yet.

I have no experience with the Axpert inverters, but based on specs, it may also be a good option...
