If money is tight get a trolley inverter and run a few extension cords
Dont consider anything other than lithium as my sole experience in gel batteries resulted in a total write off after 90 days

Lee2 got a reaction from Piper in Inferior products or dismal warranties in SA
I was watching a random solar documentary on the US and they were installing products with 25 year warrantees.
Most of our products sold here don't come with anything near, most inverters only offer a 5 year warranty with a handful offering 10 and many stories on forums suggesting they don't honour them and blame the user/installer/location/weather etc
So are we being sold inferior products here or are we just not getting good enough warranties. If you are paying all this money for a system including now engineering signoffs you would expect the system to be warranteed for a long time else you are wasting your money, imagine every five years having to repeat these large payouts, this scenario is very possible given solar is a very recent mass phenomena in SA and are just a handful of years old, and most of the products on the market are new/untested and sadly many already have a whiff of won't be honouring any warrantees.
Maybe I am just a being stingy skeptic but I don't think a five year warrantee is good enough for anything requiring professional sign offs that i have to pay for because my government can't supply me with electricity

The arrogance of these elected officials is staggering [I have been to the local government offices a few times for my own taste of them apart from your friends experience which does not surprise me in the slightest]. They now want us to not use any power but pay for that privilege. They in particular seem to hate those fortunate enough to be able to keep the lights on. Reminds me a little of why open toed shoes and hot chicken were banned for my own protection not that long ago.
if the government hate our batteries so much it is a good indication we need to buy more of them
  5. Thanks
I like what you suggesting as it is their problem and they must go fix it. They can stagger the power returning to homes with some sort of jitter algorithm. How is not our problem.  Instead of talking solutions they just whine, citizen blame and shame and come up with utterly ludicrous ideas like don't charge your UPSes

Of course they would blame residents for their woes. Standard SA playbook  that is being refined as the regime fails: blame the citizens. It is their fault we not getting enough tax revenue after constantly harassing the rich and creating a terrible business climate, their fault for using too much water after letting the infra collapse, and now the same with electricity.
It is the citizens who use too much power, my Axpert which charges at 20A 24V [i.e 500W] is destabilising the grid, can I please turn it off and sit in the dark. Sorry boss but i cannot.
Their legislation is going to be the next etolls
My opinion is they should drop the pay by 30% of every overpaid city official and lay off at least 10% of them to let them feel how the rest of us feel .

I read this the other day https://www.spectator.com.au/2023/05/solar-a-risky-waste-of-time-and-money/ , does not take into account loadshedding though, one thing if it costs more compared to other sources and another thing if your alternative is no fridge, home office and lights

Of course it is a waste of time. For a start you having to fund it not them and then they charge you prime and pay you pittance. They should credit you by the kwh. Feed in a kwh get a kwh deducted from your bill. Then they set the price and can change it at anytime. They must think you stupid

Not that i have registered because i have no panels, but my research was very clear that an off grid inverter will never be on that list as those are grid ties, and you do need to register them but as off grid in a much lighter weight process

If it is not a grid tie inverter it won't be listed and you also don't need to fill out that form, only a lighter weight one for off grid installs. if it is a grid tie then I don't know

Looks fantastic, super neat and aesthetic! And a great price.
What size geyser does she have? Did you drop the element size?
Also can you share some photos of all the dbs? My dad is getting an installer to come tomorrow to look so I am keen to get some ideas on how others have installed
  20. Confused
It looks like you took the 4 wires that normally went into the main breaker straight to the inverter, and the inverter output into the main breaker?
How did you extend those 10/16mm2 wires, from googling it seems like one can use ferrules and heatshrink but i am sure there must be a better way like a big wago or chocalate block etc?

Can one not glue it into a coupler etc? My googling indicated the flexible conduits just break off where glued down, i.e. it reacts badly and weakens it where glued

I also had the same problem, unless we stage 18 and any drop helps I also concluded it is unfortunately a waste of time and currently the trustees wont allow it anyways.
I also noticed the summer sun doesn't hit the spot like the winter sun does and the location is just really non-ideal
