  1. Hi @Scorp007 I am busy working on my knowledge of how to size panels, let me know if the below seems right. The specs of the MKS IV OSG5.6 are (right hand side): Let's say we used the JASolar 540W panels. The Minimum string size is 3 panels. 120v / 41.64Vmp [V] = 2.88 Maximum string size is 450v / 49.6Voc [V] = 9.07 Now we need to take the temperature coefficient for these panels 49.6Voc [V] ∗ 0.00275 = 0.1364 My location is Randburg and minimum temp recorded is -7C and NOCT = 45C therefore 45+7 = 52 Calculate the voltage change per degree Celsius 0.1364 * 52 = 7,0928V 49.6Voc [V] + 7,0928V = 56,6928V on the coldest recorded day, therefore 450v / 56,6928 = 7,937 So technically speaking there should not be more than 7 panels per sting (in the most extreme case) However, you could run two strings of 5 panels which would fit very easily into the Voc [V] and the 120A max charge current. Just a few questions... Do you use the NOCT or STC Pmax [W] to calculate max Watts when comparing to the MPPT on the inverter ? if it's NOCT then you put 2S7P ? Can you combine two sting of different numbers I.E one of 5 and one of 6 ?

  8. Hi There I was wondering if there is someone in the fourways ish area who has a crimper that would be willing to assist me, I have +-3M of 35mm battery cable that I need to cut in to 1*1M and 1*2M and crimp the 35mm lugs on either side.

  13. @Sc00bs Thanks for the detail, I definitely have a look at the Emporia Vue 2, it does look quite comprehensive. $200 is a little on expensive side, might however be worth it. it. The reason why have been looking around is that I have seen the Efergy on geewiz as above however the actual monitoring device bottom left, does not seem to be instock. Perhaps it was discontinued?
  14. Hi All As the topic mentions I am looking for some recommendations around 1 or 3 phase power monitors. I am looking for something relatively cheap R1K for 1 phase and R2.5K for 3 phase. They should be able to log to an app or at least software running on a PC. This is to monitor power usage before taking the off grid plunge. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations?
  15. Hi Guys Just posted some questions around the Luxpower SNA5000 WPV 5KW 48V, it does seem like there is a local distributer to assist with support which I am happy to hear about. One thing that does seem a little confusing is around the PV voltage and wattage. The data spec's say 5000w and Max.PV Open Circuit Voltage 145Vdc where as the manual says 6400W and Max.PV Open Circuit Voltage 480Vdc, there are similar discrepancies else where.
  16. Hi All I am complete newbie to the inverter, battery PV Environment and would like some commentary around inverter choice, suppliers and a few other questions. A reasonable amount of research has been to come to the below. 1st a little information: I will be moving to an area that has had a few years of unstable power and as we all know Eskom is not the most reliable. Both my wife and I work from home and require longer than a laptop battery's up time. Networking equipment is already UPS'ed for 10+ Hours. My initial budget is around R30K and I would like to future proof the system to add in solar, additional storage and inverter. I will initially manually manage the house load to below 5KW and we use about 450 KWh's a month. The title, I am considering a either a Growatt 5000ES from GCSolar or a Solar Select LuxPower SNA5000 from inverter-warehouse. SNA is slightly cheaper. Having read both manuals, the SNA seems to have slightly higher stats (2*Mppt's, Higher PV wattage/amp, Generator input and grid feedback?) Does anyone have and experience with this inverter? Reliability, Ease of config, Local warrantee? The Growatt does seem to be quite popular so support issues are a little easily trouble-shooted. Are there any particular reasons why the suppliers should be avoided? Both units require an external wifi card, but the LuxPower has an App for easy monitoring? These dongles need to be purchased separately? Battery. I am pretty much settled on a PylonTech US3000C 3.5KW, Good price from either supplier, 10 Year Warentee, expandable to more/other PylonTech units. Supported by the inverters. The only other equipment I have spec'd for is the PK PYLON LV for C Battery Cable. I am planning on wiring the system into the house. This is where I am a little fuzzy on details, but will hazard some guesses. The Inverter needs to sit between the mains and the house load. A breaker/box is required to isolate the house from the Inverter, what amperage? Does the battery require the same? Can I just get an electrician just to sign off on the COC? Any other comments/feedback please don't hesitate. uDDers
  17. Thanks for the feedback, yeah I have been suspect of the overly cheap inverters. I would rather pay the additional R4k and get an original with warrantees.
