MORE ESKOM WOES... is that possible?
I agree, but you have to see it in comparison to the income they have.

Cape Town regulations
@SilverNodashi this is a very important statement you make. We are in discussions with the CoCT how to handle the > 3.5kW dilemma preventing a lot of systems at the moment from successfully achieving SSEG connection. Can you please advice who made this statement. It would be of great help to us.

there is a very real possibility this is going to happen. If it does we better run for cover!

Goodwe EZMeter installation
i would call the installer to fix the problem. The Goodwe inverters are shipped with EZmeters and the installer should have fitted it.

I think the risk of getting prosecuted will be quite small if SA deteriorates further. They will have MUCH BIGGER problems on their hands soon. Do you think you would be worried about your illegal hybrid GTI in Venezuela 🤣.

DB Board
In addition to size the design (as I have learned the hard way) is also very important. To remove the frame of my Samite board is such a disaster that I have nightmares about it.
-
DB Board
agree. When I build my house 4 years ago I thought the 60 way (3 x 20) Samite board would be more than big enough. It is already to small☹️.

Planning my solar "freedom - Pretoria
I am with @The Terrible Triplett on this one. I would just wait until they accept the hybrids without the change over switch. I am sure it will happen soon.

12kw synerji
Can you monitor (in real time) the PV string voltages and amps? It should give you a clear picture what is going on.

Anyone like to look over my proposed SSEG application and diagram?
great news. Keep us posted how it goes. Will be interesting to see how they handle the non compliance regarding the change over switch. My application is still stuck at the inverter size > 3.5kW stage.

you are absolutely right. We are very good at complaining but quite useless when it comes to taking action. Where does this mentality come from?

Victron grid tied setup from scratch
I agree money might not be the main reason, but it is part of it. I think the municipalities and the government are concerned that they will loose the grip on generation/distribution and selling of electricity.

prime service - no loadshedding!!!!
did you check todays date?

Large PV plant for luxury lodge.
and much more expensive 😉

Victron grid tied setup from scratch
I will send an email to the DA councillor here in Plattekloof.

Hybrid ES 5KW GW5048D-ES Optimum setting - advice
in order to discharge the batteries further you would have to change the DOD setting of the inverter. Not a good situation to be in sitting in the dark with wife and kids screaming 😱. That is why i have changed the inverter settings during the recent stage 4 load shedding disaster to "back up". In this mode the inverter keeps the batteries always at 100%

Heating water from PV system
@xinath i think it would be best if you call your installer over and have him explain to you in detail how your system works. It goes beyond the scope of what i can do here. Maybe @plonkster can? I can answer some of your questions though. no. you have lithium batteries. there is no partial state of charge problem to worry about. mine is around 350W. Your night consumption is rather high. Try to find the reason and see if you can reduce it.

Hybrid ES 5KW GW5048D-ES Optimum setting - advice
yes. Just make sure you set the minimum SOC at a reasonable level to achieve the highest ROI for the batteries. If there is insufficient battery power at night the inverter will just take it from the grid. The only problem is that if load shedding hits you with an empty battery you will have no power on the back up output 🤣.

Questions about electrics/inverter setup
thank. yes i did. i used profiCad. not sure about the legal requirement. I am going through the SSEG registration process at the moment. Any non compliance will obviously be fixed. I pretty much followed the Goodwe diagram. The one i have only has a breaker in the life wire. thanks for the proposal. I am sure it could work. It would however require another 63A change over switch and major rewiring. My DB board is so full already and i hate working with 16mm2 wires . I think it would be easier for me to rather educate my wife 🤣

Glen Bowles
ok i have a Goodwe ES and not EM with lead acids. Maybe they are different but the SOC reported by the inverter is actually very accurate. (comparing it with the BMV-702).
-
Goodwe 5048 EM delay when supply drops.
they claim 10mS. I would contact Goodwe.

Is your system legal? Capetonians have till 28 Feb 2019 to register their systems
is there actually any evidence that if you go > 25% grid damage will go up? I am fully in favor of sound engineering solutions. But i am also worried, that we unnecessarily limit the optimum PV capacity.

Hybrid ES 5KW GW5048D-ES Optimum setting - advice
sorry only just read this post now. As explained in the other post you can program your inverters use of the batteries. You can choose when to charge and when to discharge. Just remember that when it is programmed to charge the batteries and there is insufficient PV power it will take it from the grid. Charging batteries from the grid under normal day to day use is not really a good idea. The exception is if load shedding looms and there was insufficient sun to charge the batteries.

Heating water from PV system
@xinath I think there is some confusion here regarding how your inverter works. You have to know this in order to fully utilize its potential. The Goodwe manual has some good information and there is lots of excellent stuff on the web regarding the difference between inverters and how they work.

Heating water from PV system
yes it can. It is called economical mode. Use EzManage or PV Master app to choose it and set the desired battery discharge times.
