Question about the Max load on an 8Kw Sunstnk inverter
Don't think that should be an issue. This is mine. Currently turned off timer due to load shedding risk yesterday.

Question about the Max load on an 8Kw Sunstnk inverter
So still within the 90A pass through limit of the inverter. Why is the inverter trying to provide 8.7kw and only taking 3.3kw from the grid? It should stop at 8kw of the grid is available. Can you share your system mode screen?

Which inverter? Looking for some guidance.
The sunsynk 8kw inverter is a good choice. Most of the threads here about it is more questions on functionality than issues with the inverter as well as installers not being familiar of the inverters capabilities. Mine has been installed for 10 months now and only issues were around a software update. Since then it's been working flawlessly and generated 11.67MW. Saving me nearly R30k in the process. It works with most brands of lithium batteries. Has a number of configuration options including the ability to add a micro inverter, wind turbine or generator. It has 3 connections. Bidirectional grid connection where power can be sent back to non essential loads. The load connection is the main or essential connection The aux is a configurable input or output depending on how you want to use it. This could be used for a generator, micro inverter or wind turbine input or it could be configured as an output as a second non essential output. Of you decide on a sunsynk then go with an accredited sunsynk installer as every installer that's out there and only worked on axpert type inverters will not be able to advise you on all of its functions and capabilities.

Question about the Max load on an 8Kw Sunstnk inverter
Yes it would. Something else could be at play and the inverter is not capable of pulling 90A on pass through for a sustained amount of time. Maybe @Leshencan comment as the inverter should not trip at 10kw if the grid is available. What software are you currently on?

Question about the Max load on an 8Kw Sunstnk inverter
If you can, try and measure the start up current of the on demand water heater. You might find that it's double the rated power pushing your total current over 90A.

Question about the Max load on an 8Kw Sunstnk inverter
What error code are you getting on the inverter? Do you know at what kw it trips at? Perhaps the on demand hot wat element uses more than 5kw on startup which exceeds the pass through limit. The 8kw should be able to sustain 90A if the grid is available. I pushed mine to 10.5kw without the inverter tripping.

New Solar Installation - Would love some advice please
This is incorrect and he will not be the first installer that doesn't know the full potential of a proper hybrid inverter. The 5kw sunsynk/deye inverters can have up to 35A on the inverter of the grid is available. Meaning you can run 7.7kw on the 5kw inverter (35A*220V).

Passthrough on Sunsynk Hybrid Inverter
It could be a simple software upgrade. What software version are you running. I had mine installed last year as well including a few other members.

Passthrough on Sunsynk Hybrid Inverter
Pic from @Leshenshowing pas through om the 8kw sunsynk. You'll notice the load on the UPS essential side is over 9kW which is above the 8kw inverter rating.
-
Passthrough on Sunsynk Hybrid Inverter
Incorrect Pass through is on the essential side. If the grid or another ac source is available then you can pull up to 35A on the 5kw and 90A on 8kw essential side.

Flat mounting in Cape Town
I installed my 34 x 305w panels on my carport at about 5° because of exactly this reason. Price of frames to mount them on and spacing them correctly to avoid shading was just not worth it. Was easier to just add more panels to compensate for the losses on flat mounting them.

Deye 5K during Load shedding without a battery
Another option is a generator instead of a battery. You need something that the inverter can use to regulate the solar coming in. A 5kW generator should work on the aux input. You will experience a delay as the generator takes longer to switch on if load shedding kicks in. Just make sure you get one that the inverter can send the gen start signal to.

Not possible without batteries.

Sunsynk 8kW
Ok. Makes sense then. Another option could be to put the underfloor heating on a different circut before the CT sensor so the inverter will not even see it as it will only push back to loads before the inverter up to where its connected.

Sunsynk 8kW
What batteries do you have? Lithium is meant to be cycled. I run mine down to 20% SOC every day. The less you use overall from the grid, the quicker the system will pay for itself. 6 000 cycles is over 16 years. Just letting them stand and not utilising them becomes a waste. Unless you have Lead Acid batteries then I would suggest you keep them only for backup when the grid fails.

@Leshencan comment on what the current software of the 5kw inverter is.

Sunsynk 8kW
In winter the panels will struggle to reach the full amps. On the Solarman app you can check the MPPT current and if it's clipping it will have a flat peak. Pic below is from my array which in summer it gets up to 18A but in winter it barely gets to 10A. I have the 8kw inverter. I know there were some issues which were resolved with a software update. What is the software version and have you requested an update since the installation.

Sunsynk 8kW
Welcome to the sunsynk club. I've had the same experience where installers are only familiar with the axpert type inverters installed as a load shedding solution. 1. If the inverter is switched off, the loads will be disconnected. You should have a transfer switch before the inverter so that you can switch the loads back to grid if you need to switch the inverter off for maintenance and repairs. 2. I don't have the neutral bond on mine installed and have not had any issues so can't comment on how to test if you need to have this done or not. 3. Can you share your system mode screen. If you tick limit to load then the batteries will only be used for the loads and not go to the grid side.

Sunsynk 8kW
You can then tick limit to load but then if you have any excess pv it will not go to the stove when it's being used. Edit. Limit to load will only supply the essential loads even without a CT installed. If you have non essentials then the only way to limit export to only these loads would be to connect the CT sensor.
-
Sunsynk 8kW
Your settings are correct if you don't to export. If the inverter is still exporting and your your meter is spinning backwards, then the ct sensor is either not installed or installed incorrectly. You can tick limit to load to only power the essential loads and nothing will go back to the grid or for the stove if it's on.

Newby checking in and asking questions re new system.
But its not only for load shedding which I think you are missing. We just tend to think of inverters on terms of load shedding. The sunsynk 8kw is designed to sustain loads up to 90A provided that the grid or suitable generator is connected on the grid input.

Pass through spec only applies if the grid is available and used in many applications so that you do not need to split your loads. Shipping and boats use this feature a lot more where they don't have to disconnect their loads from the inverter when the connect to shore power of their inverter can pass through. It's also useful in off grid installations where you don't have the grid but you could connect a 12kw generator to the grid port so the generator can supply this and pass through the inverter.

Running 3 aircons, kettle, tumble dryer and well point pump plus our normal household load all on the ups port of the inverter. Obviously if the grid were to go down at this point then the inverter will trip as the battery plus solar will not be able to supply for the full load for more than 10 seconds.
