  1. Ensure that the SunSynk Modbus ID is correct, it defaults to zero sometimes.
  2. Solar Assistant stores all data locally on the Raspberry PI using InfluxDB. No data is sent/stored in the cloud. 1) This is a great privacy feature 2) Not affected by internet outages 3) No data missing because in internet line is down SolarMan Dongle/SunSynk Dongle/CloudLink send data to the cloud and store data in the cloud. If you have Home Assistant, you can can integrate Solar Assistant with Home Assistant via the mqtt feature. Only when mqtt is enabled, is data sent real time using mqtt from Solar Assistant to Home Assistant. You normally run Home Assistant locally on your LAN. Solar Assistant does have a "proxy" feature that allows you to connect via a URL and view the data on your local Raspberry PI when you on the road.
  3. Solar-Assistant operates in a local mode with no data going to the internet/cloud. You need to enable mqtt mode to send data to another queue of your choice (eg Home Assistant). On my RPI3, Solar-Assistant with mqtt enabled. sends mqtt data set approx 45x per minute -> 1.3s update frequency. This may be a speed limit of the RPI3. Would be nice to have a setting that allows us to select an update frequency, eg 5s or 10s If you enable mqtt, then it sends to another mqtt listener - normally on the LAN.
  4. Mine did the same. Takes a cycle to recalibrate the SoC.
  5. You should be able to use a PC DB9 serial port. You will need a DB9 to RJ12 cable.

On the AM-2, has anyone use the RS485/RJ45 port for firmware updates as documented in the AM-2 manual: The reason I'm asking, is that: Ready made USB-to-RS485 cable with RJ45 connectors are readily available. Ready made USB-to-RS232 cable with RJ12 connectors are somewhat rare. RJ45 connectors are used for 10/100/1000 Network/Ethernet/LAN cables and are very common.
  7. I think that refers to updating the CloudLink device itself. AFAIK, CloudLink can't yet update the firmware on the BMS.
  8. If your laptop has an RS323 serial port (normally a DB9 socket), you should be able to use that directly. >If I strip a RJ12 and USB cable and join them together AFAIK, this will not work. You need a USB-to-RS232 protocol converter chip. The USB side is a little bigger and embedded inside is chip that does the conversion. Internally the cable has a chip similar to this:
  9. 1) You have 15 minutes to download the software, firmware, password from the file share site. You can install at your leisure. AFAIK, neither of the two cables will work: The bidorbuy cable is USB TO RJ45 Console Serial - AFAIK, you need an RJ12 end. The makro cable is a USB TO Lan Ethernet 10/100 Mbps RJ45, this is the wrong protocol and wrong RJ plug. I used the USB TO Serial RJ10/RJ12 cable from Solar-Assistant.io Solar-Assistant.io call it a USB to Serial RJ10 Cloud-Link call it a Serial RJ12 plug

  11. I always like to mention the Voltage when taking about A or Ah, as some people assume 220V. 50A x 48V = 2,400W
  12. If you use a shelf that's held at front & back you should be able to use any rack that's big enough. Sides removed to show mounting: I used these shelves to hold equipment that does not have rack mount holes / rail kit.
  13. The update is OTA. You need either the SunSynk or the SolarMan WiFi Dongles. Fill in the form at: https://www.sunsynk.org/up-grade to request a firmware upgrade and SunSynk support will OTA push the upgrade to the inverter. Normally takes a day or three for the update to arrive.
  14. Was the inverter / battery under load? The load will push the voltage down. When the load is removed (cut off), the voltage will climb and settle.
  15. Thanks, Did a Google and seems to be an issue with some SunSynk models that creates interfering harmonics on the power line. Hopefully SunSynk can fix it for you. 😞 Would be interesting to see a spectrum analysis of the AC in and AC out.
  16. Under normal usage the SunSynk inverter does a pass thru of the grid. The Volts & Hz track Eskom's. Is the firmware updated? Is the Earth correctly connect?
  17. The 8k has some fans and should be installed away from living areas - like in your garage. The NRS certification is done independently. Sunsynk is sold in UK, EU, US, OZ and many other places that have stricter rules - under the brands Sunsynk, Deye & Sol-Ark Most people very happy with the SunSynk/Deye inverters. When is the high pitched sound? It it all the time or during load shedding or when charging or when PV is at maximum load is it when discharging or etc... 1.Never heard of the high pitched issue before. 2.Try Victron - they make some excellent inverters. 3.To sell, try the classified section: https://powerforum.co.za/forum/27-classifieds/
  18. I've also reported the Solar-Assistant temperature issue to developers. The temperature from SA via RS232 console port does not correspond the temperature from RS485 Modbus or PbmsTools. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. Perhaps @SolarAssistant can advise.
  19. The way I understood Keith's videos... In UK you can use the smaller 3.6kW units for self consumption without permits. The larger units/grid feed require permits. Not sure if this is the same elsewhere.
  20. The SunSynk 8kW wiring/board is very different to SunSynk 5.5kW board/wiring. You need to carefully follow the correct wiring diagram for the relevant inverter model. The older SunSynk installer manual is somewhat confusing as it covered 3.6kW/5.5kW and 8kW inverter models in one book and requires careful reading.   21. Nice graph. Remember that most AM-2 batteries are in a garage / shed as they are not IP65 rated. In JHB, the typical indoor temperature rarely drops below 15C (Lowest I've measured 16C indoors) At 15C, there is only a 1.5% drop in capacity.

Am I misunderstanding something?
  23. 1) Make sure you set the Modbus ID for SunSynk as per this post: https://powerforum.co.za/topic/8451-sunsynk-inverter-monitoring/page/21/#comment-124091 Mine reset itself to ID=0 after a firmware upgrade. 2) The serial side of "open_serial / read / write" probably needs some work On my tests, the read seems to return incorrectly every other time - may be because the ttyUSB0 has another app running on it.   24. My suggestion is "Return the RIOT and get Solar-Assistant." I never got my RIOT to work.
  25. SynSynk / Deye are some of the most popular NRS 097-2-1 approved inverters in South Africa. Even if only a small percent have issues, that would explain the "TON of inverters in their workshop". The good thing is that there is local support and a repair center/workshop. Not saying that SynSynk / Deye are perfect, but in general most people seem to be happy with their SynSynk / Deye.
