Option 2: I use a Geyserwise timer: Time 1: 10:30-16:00 - uses Solar PV - set geyserwise temperature to 65C Time 2: 4am-6am - uses Eskom / battery - 55C Option 2: Only wash in the morning OR evening.

Firmware is just a computer program that's loaded onto the inverter. As with any program, there can be bugs/defects. It's possible that the firmware world work for a while then start misbehaving (time dependent), but in this case I think the bug/defect is misbehaving from the beginning. Most owners won't notice the defect as they don't actively monitor the inverter and don't know what normal behavior is. Took me a few weeks to notice the bug/defect, fortunately there newer firmware resolved the issue. I suspect that SunSunk version control used an older routine in the firmware which re-introduced the defect. @Keith Gough SunSynk really need to start publishing firmware change logs so owners can see what issues are addressed.

Sunsynk 8kw - Setting for a rainy day
You might be able to force the inverter to power off the load side by remotely changing the shutdown/low batt/restart soc. The only issue is that you won't be able to re-enable the inverter as your WiFi/internet will be off 😞 A better approach is to bump up the SoC on System mode 1: I've been in a situation where it was overcast the whole day and then had a grid outage at 17h00 which lasted the whole night. The normal 20% SoC only lasted 4.5h and we went dark at about 22h30. I've changed the 16:00 slot to 35% to have a bigger buffer in the evening. At 16:00, if SoC < 35%, the inverter will use grid to bump to 35% SoC.

I have a similar system - two geysers. TIP: Treat your geyser as an energy store (aka battery for excess Solar PV). I have a similar evacuated geyser system (installed in 2010). Since getting Solar PV in 2021, I change the timer programs to use the geyser as a store. I previously had the Eskom recommended geyser timings of 4h00-6h00 and 16h00-18h00 The theory is that you allow the sun to heat the geyser during the day 6am to 16pm. The standard GeyserWise is limited to 65C and has 4 time zones. I set the daylight time zones as high as possible to 65C. Note that the GeyserWise TSE / Tuya upgrade allows for 75C. My average background house load is ~700W and my batteries are normally full by 13h00. On most days (i.e. sunny days), my PV is generating 4kW by 10h00, which us enough to start heating water and also run the house and not draw from batteries. So I changed the 16h00-18h00 timer to 10h30 to 18h00. I use excess Solar PV electricity to boost the geyser temperature at 10h30 to 65C. The boosting takes 30m-1h. The evacuated tubes then takes the water to 70C or 80C. Make sure you have an automatic mixer on the hot water outlet of the geyser to prevent overly hot water feeding your home. AFAIK, the mixer is a code safety requirement. My second geyser is a normal 100L for a single person guest house, and I have a basic timer set for 13h00 to 16h00 only to 65C - this uses excess Solar PV electricity.

AFAIK, the Sonoff LoadShedder as mentioned by @rkistner once setup will automatically do what you need - no need to use the app to turn off/on.

IANAL, but it seems Eskom did not win, the case was dismissed for "not furnishing application not properly" - a technical issue. TIP: 1) Take regular photos of your meter for evidence. 2) Confirm that the meter number on your account matches the physical meter. I had an issue where my readings were estimated for extended period as the meter number had disappeared from my bill. The metro changed the physical meter (I did not even notice as I was at work). I struggled to get them to reconcile my account. To make things worse, the new bill meter number did not correspond with new physical meter number - I was paying someone else's meter. Once the issue was resolved, I switched to prepaid. 3) Switch to prepaid 4) Unless allowed, make sure you not grid-feeding as some meters will count this as usage

Solar Geyser Performance
I have a thermosyphon split setup with 18 tubes and 300l geyser. There is a U bend in the pipe to prevent reverse circulation. The tubes raise the temperature by 15-18C from 9:00-16:00 I only recently started recording the temperature with a GeserWise TSE WiFi/Tuya module. If the water is below 65C at 10:30am, I boost the water using electricity to 65C as I have excess Solar PV. There was no electrical boost in the above chart. My thermosyphon system was installed in 2010 and I got my Solar PV in 2021. Today I would just install a normal geyser and a few more PV panels as this is cheaper and more robust than tubes.

PRO TIP: Take photos of the post paid meter reading before it gets changed. I did my conversion to CoJ prepaid in ~2010. In my excitement I misplaced the job card, had to rely on the photos to get the process completed. Seems the process is simpler today. Each metro & Eskom have different rules wrt fixed monthly connection/network/capacity/service fees, this makes it difficult to provide guidelines. I did my CoJ calculations in 2010, and every year since then, and pre-paid has been better than post-paid in CoJ. The 2022/2023 pre-paid trariff rates on CityPower website are incomplete and fail to mention DSM levy. A 6c/kWh Demand Side Management (DSM) Levy will be charged above 500 kWh usage per month. When asking questions, please state which metro you in.

A lot dependent on your system and also on how you "load shift" - eg I use a timer to heat water geyser during the day. Also "beginning of the year" means summer, so better sun. From "beginning of the year" (1 Jan 2023 to 21 Apr 2023), I've use ~90% sun and 10% from grid. Use grid mostly due to rain/clouds and 20W trickle feed. The stats drop a bit with winter, since start in Nov 2021 it's 85%. EDIT: Since 1 Jan 2023 to now (111 days) saved R5,231. Estimate about R17,200 savings per year at current CoJ rates. Bigger savings when Eskom 18.65% increase kicks in on 1 July 2023... Very happy to not have load load shedding.

Due to the nature of forums you will always find a higher percentage of complaints vs praises. That's just how forums work. Not a true reflection of the product. In my experience SunSynk is a good product and SunSynk South African Support helped when I needed them.

@Dani You have 2 x AM-2 and a 5kW SunSynk and 4.8kWp panels Batt Charge Panel: The 40A is when charging from gen. The 50A is when charging from grid. If you have a N-E bond with an ATS connected, remember to select "Signal ISLAND MODE" Note that the grid charge is at ~48V DC, so 50A*48V= ~2.4kW South African Grid is ~230V AC, so 2.4kW is ~10.5A - see @BTTB comment about 25% Batt Type: I would use 100A Charge/Discharge 100A * 48V = ~4.8kW I think the BMS overrides this. Activate is to revive a dead battery Shutdown Panel: I use 5,7,10% - which may be a bit low for some users. This is also dependent on the settings in System Mode 1 - I use 20%, which means the inverter will will discharge to 20%, then use grid. If you at 20% and there is load shedding, then continue down to 5% and shutdown. The 20% -> 5% happens very rearly. Perhaps try 10,15,20 and 40% in System Mode which means the inverter will will discharge to 40%, then use grid. If you at 40% and there is load shedding, then continue down to 10% and shutdown. You need to select values appropriate for your usage.

Same if you have a swimming pool, under floor heating, etc run them 10:30 to 15:00 Using home automation (eg Home Assistant) and sensors you can be quite creative to prevent discharging the inverter battery.

@roadkill My geyser is on the Essential Load. I have 2 geysers, which I heat sequentially. I also have some logic that turns off the geysers I have a timer to only run the geysers sequentially 10:30am to 17:00pm and 4:00am to 6:00am During timed schedule (10:30am to 17:00pm and 4:00am to 6:00am): If load shedding and battery is discharging -> turn off geyser During 10:30am to 17:00pm, there is enough PV to run house, charge battery and heat geyser.
