..so the City of Cape Town now wants me to  "install a reverse power flow blocking protection system that permanently prevents reverse power flow onto the City's electricity grid".  I have a Sunsynk inverter not exporting to grid.  I've asked the question if this means I require additional protection as opposed to the Sunsynk preventing export via the CT coil, but no answer thus far.

Can anyone suggest what they really want/has anyone implemented such a device? Thanks in advance.

I think the CT coil and correct settings should be sufficient. 

The Sunsynk is on the CoCT approved inverter list and, yes, the ct coil is sufficient 

I would be interested if anyone else in Cape Town was forced to implement anything else part from the compliant inverter, or implemented additional reverse power flow blocking themselves.  Thanks in advance.

What reverse power flow blocking options are there, outside of the CT clamp option, though? Is that the new meter? If so - any option apart from that that would suffice in the COCT 'rules'?

I'm interested in this question regarding the meter, since CoCT recently replaced my original prepaid meter to a split-prepaid meter - are you suggesting that this can block reverse power flow?

that is what the technician also told me when they replaced my old prepaid meter with  the split prepaid meter last year in Cape Town

They have a very strange way of explaining themself if that is the case:

 " It is a requirement that you install a reverse power flow blocking protection system that permanently prevents reverse power flow onto the City's electricity grid."

Next paragraph " The existing meter needs to be replaced. The MRP notification number for this replacement is ..."

The technician replacing my meter had no idea why he was asked to replace my meter.

If they installed a new split prepaid meter then I wouldn't worry - these meters do accept small amounts of grid feed in for which you pay in reduced units from the meter.

I use about 100 to 200 watts a day with my Sunsynk 5kW set for Zero feedback (zero export)

@Pumba, mine is set at 20 watts, not sure why, seems everyone does so, so assume you don't have any issues with it set at zero.

Very strange! I'm afraid time will come when they will beg customers on their knees to feed back to the grid.

I see this is a pretty old thread, but has anyone become any the wiser?

I now also have these requirements thrown at me and do not understand the implications.

If you bought a Sunsynk or Deye system then the required device is known as the CT Coil that is included in the installation. Not sure about other inverter systems

I have a Sunsynk inverter and yes it does have a CT coil.   It is largely the Pre Paid meter I don't want but have been told it's a lost cause to try and argue with CtC.    Does anyone have a registered on grid system without the Pre Paid meter and blocking device?

I live in George.  The municipality replaced my old meter with a Conlog meter which is apparently very sensitive.  The meter is now continually tripping as it picks up the minimal backflow from the inverter.  I have a 8Kva Victorn inverter and the in source is split into non-critical loads (geyser and stove) and critical loads (the balance of the house).  Conolg say they can issue a token that will reduce the sensitivity of the meter but they need permission from the municipality.  The munciplaity say they will not give that permission as the meter can't handle it and will fail.  Conolg say that is nonsense but they cannot help without the permission.  Municipality say we need to put on a reverse power blocking system.  Our solar guy says the inverter is already set to no reverse power and there is nothing else he can do to "block" the minimal amount of backflow that occurs.  We are therefore in a very frustrating situation where we cannot get a solution from anyone.   I would be eternally  grateful if anyone has a solution to this problem
