I am looking to buy a microwave oven and would appreciate assistance from the community as to what microwave oven to use off my solar inverter supply.

To make things easy if anyone has suggestions for new tech appliances that will work off solar systems please post the information, help us to make informed solar wise purchases to get the maximum use out of our equipment and reduce our reliance on EISHKOM

Gas stove top for cooking and boiling water

Gas geysers

Alternative tech appliances

Have a look at induction plates apparently they are the most efficient way of cooking as only the area of the pot in touch with the induction plate generates heat. Still uses electricity but in theory less than an electric plate.

My personal favorite choice. I have avoided Gas cookers because that just means im paying for gas which works out more expensive than using a traditional electric stove top.

Maybe im incorrect on this though.

My wife also loves here induction stove, but in use it uses FULL POWER, but only in pulses if not set to 100%. Therefore your solar install needs to be able to handle the MAX power. My one is a 2kW unit. Overall it is more efficient than normal heated plate stoves.

When it comes to MW Ovens, there is new tech on the market which uses Smart Inverter technology to heat food up at different power levels, unlike conventional MW's which use the pulse method at full power. I know LG use this new technology.

For heating water, heat pumps are definitely way more efficient than geysers with resistive elements. To modify an existing geyser to be more efficient, a PTC element and install kit can be bought from geyserwise. If you are in the mood, an evacuated tube geyser can be installed to give free hot water on sunny days. All options cost money though.🙄

Gas is no longer cheap as compared to solar, so I only use it in an emergency. (Bad weather for many days, and don't feel like using generator to top batteries up.)

Is that true for all power levels?

My 2 kW cheapie induction cooker varies the power down to 1000 W, but any setting below 1000 W cycles the power on and off, but when on it's 1000 W. Still a nuisance, and I don't understand why they can't keep reducing the continuous power, but better than 2 kW when on.
