Good day

I trust you are well.

I have a VMIII inverter. The inverter is connected to two UP5000 Pylontech batteries. My inverter keeps displaying error 61 which is the communication from the inverter to the batteries.

I need assistance with the Communication Cable between the inverter’s BMS and the batteries. Which pins from the RJ45 connecter do I use for the inverter and which pins do I use for the batteries?

Also, is a CAT5e cable fine or do I have to use a CAT5?

This is the I bought: https://www.sustainable.co.za/collections/solar-power-kits/products/rct-5kva-5kw-9-6kwh-48v-lithium-back-up-kit.

Hi Coulomb

Thank you so much for the information.

  1. Just to confirm, I will use the PIP-5048MK connection even though I have a VM III?  I have attached a picture and circled the one I think you are referring to, please can you confirm if that is correct for the BMS Communication Cable ?
  2. Will that also work on the UP5000 Pylontech batteries?
  3. Also, on the dip switch, do I only dip the first switch on the master battery so that it is 1-0-0-0? Is this to be done only on my master battery or on both of my UP5000 batteries?
  4. Also, is a CAT5e cable fine or do I have to use a CAT5?

Thank you for the assistance!

The cable category is not critical, either of those is fine. It's only low speed serial data (9600 bits per second, not megahertz as with ethernet).

I don't know much about Pylontech batteries, so I can't answer your other questions.

I can asist with this the dip should be ONLY on master but on UP5000 its inverted so it should be 0-0-0-1

Thank you so much Coulomb and Quwatush, your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Regarding the pinout for the UP5000 that Quwatush mentioned above, the pinouts for the US3000 and the UP5000 seem to be different (I could be wrong), will the above combination for the communication cable still work?

Also, given the above cable sequence given by Coulomb, which RJ45 do I plugged into the inverter and which do I plugged into the battery?

Yes they are different slightly. If you have UP5000 why are you looking at pinouts for US3000.... I have not tried it using RS458 only CAN and that works fine. The side that plugs into the batterry is the side you have NOT connected pins 123 and the other into the inverter

Thank you so much for the information.

The reason I mentioned the US3000 was because Youda's post that Coulomb quote, Youda mentions that "communicate with the Pylontech Low-Voltage batteries US2000 and US3000". Therefore, I wanted to just confirm that his pinout combination will still work on the UP5000 battery even though he refers to the US2000 and the US3000 and not the UP5000?

This is because you also mention that " battery is the side you have NOT connected pins 123", however, the Youda pinout combination (attached below) uses the 123 pin on both connections.

I am a bit confused.

If you had bought a pylontech cable kit the comms cable comes in it. Its simple for RS485 Inverter RJ45 with pinouts 3 and 5. Battery RJ45 pinouts 7 and 8. (5 to 7 and 3 to 8). Hope this simplifies things.FYI If you are based in the South of JHB I will supply you one for free

I bought a Pylontech communication cable with RJ45 connector. When I wanted to connect it I realised I have a US3000 and not US3000C battery that has a RJ11 Console connector and not RJ45. The RJ11 only has 4 pins. Do you know which pinouts to use on the RJ11 connector?

All pylontechs have RS485 port which is RJ45 and as far i know the RJ11 port is only used with Pi with ICC/Battery viewer not connected directly to Inverter. See manual for US3000 and pinouts

See manual in previous reply for pinouts . The cable you need is a RJ11 to RS232 USB  and is made by Diverse Solutions. I'm pretty sure there are people that have made there own just need to find the correct RS232 USB,if you search for other threads you will find

Oh I see, the diagram says 123 but it is  actually 678 when you plug it into the battery.

I have tried this combination before but I do not think I worked.  Maybe I did something incorrectly.

I am based in Durban but I could really use a cable from an expert as I think I am connecting it incorrectly.  I am also worried that the batteries must not get damaged as I set it on USE mode.

IMO As long as equalization voltage is 52.8v, bulk 53.2v or below and float 52.4v you should be fine.

Thank you so much.  I have set my inverter to these settings.

Do you still think you can supply me with one? I don’t want to mess about with the communication cable and end up damaging something. Thanks!

An update: After many different configurations I found a configuration that now gives me warning 69 on the inverter and an annoying beep.

I used a combination of the two configurations above. I used the first configuration for the battery and the second (circled one) for the inverter.

In other words, this is the following configuration I used:

Inverter Pin - Battery (UP5000) Pin

1 - 4

2 - 5

3 - 8

5 - 7

So now I need help with four questions:

  1. How can I get rid of warning 69 and that annoying beeping?
  2. Can the incorrect pin out configurations cause warning 69?
  3. How do I know what firmware I am running?
  4. Where can I download the latest firmware and how to I install it?

In summary, use removable display firmware version 02.66 or its patched version 02.66a. It eliminates the warning. I'd actually prefer to see the warning, as long as it doesn't beep (very early display firmware may have done that).

Is this the latest?  I think the main thing is to get rid of the beep for that warning.  I do not mind the warning, it’s the beep that drives me crazy.

Also, in terms of https://www.ostrovni-elektrarny.cz/support/Axpert/FW/ what is the difference between the bottom 5 downloads and which one is the correct one for me?

It's something that Voltronic don't seem to want to tell you, sadly.

Of the 5 files mentioned, two are main firmware, two are removable display firmware, and one is a PDF of how to install. Nearly all the BMS logic is in the display firmware (which isn't obvious at first glance, but the display handles most of the input/output chores).

I don't know the VM series very well, so I don't know what the latest main firmware is. They seem to have the same confusing jumble of 9x.yy and 4x.yy version numbers that the Axpert MAXs have. Fortunately, your main problem is with the removable display firmware, so you should be able to solve your problem with just the latest removable display firmware. Quwatush Shams (Suly) has kindly provided you with the link in the post above.

There isn't patched main firmware for your model, so it probably doesn't make sense to use the patched display firmware.

Thank you so much @Coulomb and @Quwatush Shams (Suly) for all your help.  I will do the update of the removable display firmware and let you know how it goes.

Also what is MCU? Because when I download this file it is named: Remote Panel_Reflash_MCU

Do you think it is a good idea to update the main firmware as well?
