Sunsynk - Possibility to switch external fan.

Featured Replies

Is it possible to switch a external extractor fan when the internal fan starts with a 5kw Sunsynk? Even if I use a interposing relay. If not yet, I think it will be a wonderful function.

Hi Vaal, I’m switching a fan on with the Sunsynk auxiliary contact, and have it running most of the day, there is some problems with the auxiliary function as some of the forum members also experienced and stoped using it due to what seems to be a software bug. I also experienced strange auxiliary behavior that puzzled me with the auxiliary function where it was on at midnight with no solar, it’s no big deal for me as I only use it for a fresh air fan blowing air into my garage and is not critical so for me it’s exceptable and keep my garage and inverter a few degrees cooler.

Hi Gerrie

Thank you for your reply, I'll play around a bit and see if I can make it work for me.

I think it would still be a very nice function if they could add it.

Why would you want to do this, is the Sunsync fan not cooling enough?

I have a fan permanently running from 9am to 4pm on a timer...Its to cool a Goodwe (fanless), only from Sept to March..

This looks interesting. Btw mine is a 5kw model with a internal fan only.

The coolest place in my house is my passage and I installed my inverter inside a cupboard in the passage. I made 2 of 75mm holes in the top of the cupboard, going to the outside porch.

My plan is to have air sucked from the passage to "pressurise" the cupboard so that the hot air gets blown out the 2 holes, onto the porch.

My inverter is currently running at 39deg max (measured on the top of the heatsink) but I  would like to keep it cooler than that.

You could use a smart switch like a sonoff TH10 or similar to switch on the fans when temperature in the cupboard rises above a certain level.

It would have been nice and cheaper to just be able to use a output/switch on a card.

Added fans to my fan-less 5kW Sunsynk unit. Before adding the fans the unit ran high 60deg C in peak PV times. Now it is down to about 40deg C.

Werner, do you run the fans from a timer or a thermo switch?

Btw my 5.5kw Sunsynk does have a fan somewhere in it. If the connection cover is off you can clearly hear it running.

I did the same with a very basic external fan connected to a timer switch. It has had a significant impact on the inverter never having to run on its internal fan at all since I installed it.

Aahhh, okay. I have not seen or noticed the internal fan/s. The unit is pretty well sealed, so I do not know. I was concerned with the constant high temps on my unit so opted for adding air flow.

My fans are running from a Sonoff basic, which is part of my Home assistant setup. Currently I am managing it manually via the HA app. Switching 'on' in the morning and 'off' later the evening. Automation should not be major issue.

My way might be a bit cheaper: I have a plug outlet in the cupboard and I have old multi event digital plugin timer which can run the fan or fans.
