February 25, 20224 yr Hi Everyone. I am new to the forum and to solar power... would appreciate your guidance on the below matter. I recently installed a Kool energy 5.5KW inverter with 1 x Shoto 5.12 KWh lithium ion battery. The system is fed from grid or panels (9 x 400W). I have set the preference as: Solar - Grid - Battery. Since installation I have noticed that the battery does not maintain floating voltage (54V). The inverter is set to charge the battery at 56.5V. Once this is complete, the battery stabilises at 53.4V and over a period of 3 days, drops to 52V (without any observed usage). At this point, it is already in alarm status while the inverter is showing the battery to be at 85% capacity. The supplier is clueless - he has tried out different batteries but the same phenomena is observed. Is this normal? Is it possibly related to the settings on the inverter. Any help with be much appreciated.
February 25, 20224 yr You should not treat lithium batteries as if they were lead acid batteries, there should be BMS communications between your battery and your inverter and you should not set voltage levels at all, the BMS should tell the inverter what it needs for charging, what it will cater for on the discharge end and what the charge level is.

February 25, 20224 yr 1 hour ago, Van88 said: P.S. there is a BMS cable installed between battery and Inverter Ok, now the only question is, whether the inverter supports the comms to the battery... you'd have to tell the inverter that the battery is LFP/Lithium type and what the comms are, but not knowing your inverter, I can't really help much, @Coulomb seems to be the southern hemisphere Axpert Expert 🙂 and it seems your inverter is an Axpert type, maybe @Coulomb can spread some of his wisdom and give you some direction.

But the interaction between BMS and inverter, often via an intermediate display firmware, is quite complex. It's really easy for something to go wrong. That's where you need strong support from your manufacturer. Alas, in a sweeping statement, the Chinese manufacturers don't seem to have support as a high priority.

Any help with be much appreciated. Just a quick question regarding your Kool Energy 5.5kw inverter, should the fans run continuously or do they turn off when batteries have charged?
June 27, 20224 yr I also have Kool Energy 5.5kw inverter and the noise of the fans continually running is driving me grazy. not to mentioned the "kak" wifi app..

There is a 15S and 16S version of the same "5,12kwh" battery and they have very different voltages. Could it be that you are setting the 16S voltages on a 15S battery causing the overcharge alarm to trigger? I'm just wondering because 52V would be normal for the 15S version and 56.5V would be a very high charge voltage.

July 12, 20233 yr Best is coms but there is nothing wrong with running from volts setting only (with out com) as long as your setting are right . So lithium specs would help .
