Mecer 1440W inverter with Pylontech battery?

I got a Mecer 2.4KVa/1440W modifed sine wave inverter box with 2x100Ah batteries in March 2020. It worked well but 2 years later, the batteries are not lasting longer than 30 minutes (they used to manage 6 hours). I want to go lithium-ion when replacing, and am considering a Pylontech US2000 battery or possibly Blue Nova. My electrician recommended Pylontech, based on longevity. I also want to get some solar panels, and link the inverter into the DB board, linked to a subset of items. I would like to be able to upgrade later, but using the inverter I already have seems like a cost-effective solution, if it is possible. Unfortunately my electrician is having trouble getting an answer from Mecer as to whether the battery would work with the inverter.

Usually you can replace a lead-acid battery with a lithium battery, make almost no changes, and it will work acceptably.

But the nominal voltage of the batteries has to be the same. It looks like your present inverter has 2 12 V batteries in series, so it's a 24 V system. The Pylontech US2000 series are all 48 V nominal.

There is a 24 V Pylontech model, but it's a bit less common, so harder to find. Other manufacturers also make 24 V nominal LFP or other lithium based batteries, but again your choices are more limited than with 48 V batteries.

Do you know if the charge and low battery cutoff settings is adjustable on this inverter. The default settings of this inverter will not be OK for Pylontech batteries. I also want to know but can't see in the manual if the settings is adjustable. 

Just make shure that the charger can handle a lithium battery - I dont think the BBONE can . Your alternative is probably the Blue Nova drop in 12 V batteries . But if something goes wrong then they going to ask how you charged them. Time probably to invest in a better inverter . 

On the BBONE i would just replace it with Lead acid again - or sell the BBone and upgrade . 

The charging side seems to be fine on the BBONE inverter. It is really the low cut off that presents problems on lithium.  Just add a Victron battery protector to cut off the battery at the 23.6 or 24V level and you fine. Cost is about R800.

Hi Beckett

Did you manage to come right with using lithium batteries with the Mecer inverter?

 

I'm sitting in the same predicament as you are, LA batteries are on their way out after 2 years and lots of loadshedding and extended outages.
