Your observation is correct: Running with just one module is a bit limiting (in both cases), though 1kw from a small battery is still not something to frown at. They can peak higher for short periods (typically 60 seconds). So really, 2 racks already makes a very usable battery.

Too many people already plug one end into the can port and the other into the Axpert's RS232 port :-) I suspect the reason for using that port is because, if I recall correctly, someone on some other forum figured out how to use that port, and since it is RS232 you don't need an expensive CAN or RS485 usb thing. The reason why you'd rather use the other ports is because they can communicate over longer distances, or in some cases (boats, yachts) there might already be a canbus for everything else and it makes sense to just plug this thing in.

The SOC indicated by the Pylon's LEDs was within a percent or two with what the BMV was indicating. Being able to read the Pylons BMS is however streets better.

Hi MiG I am using the Australian firmware update (Lithium version) which allows program 29 to be set between 44V and 52V in 0.1V increments. Wonderful stuff we owe @Coulomb and @weber a huge debt of gratitude. Now that i have 4 modules I might just turn the alarm back on as I was always sailing close to the wind and the alarm would sound incessantly. The BMV alarm settings were closer the cutoff point so I would take notice of it.

Actually, only some Axpert settings (I think only 12 and 13, to grid and back to battery) are 1 V granularity. It's really hard to change the granularity, because the settings info is packed into bit fields to be sent over a small number of CAN packets between master and slaves.

One quick thing, Is this lithium firmware compatible with the current 5kW models? Sadly, no, it is not. It is so far only available for the 4kW/5kVA (pf0.8) models (with single 145 V SCC). We're still waiting for someone to send us a firmware update file for a 5kW/5kVA (pf1) model (without the 64 V option), anonymously if you wish. I believe that would be version 74.XX.
