November 9, 20232 yr I came across this brand watching the Off-Grid Garage (very good channel about batteries) on YouTube. I googled the make and found this link https://www.gobelpower.com/gobel-sa-13-battery-south-africa_ap25.html, has anybody dealt with or have these batteries. I am very interested in these as I was also looking at the Apexium build your own battery but these are looking very good as well. I did send an online enquiry about warranty and if any local support. I was hoping someone has dealt with them and could give feedback. Looks like a very nice battery. November 9, 20232 yr This is really a great price. A DIY battery doesn't even to be a cheaper alternative compared to this. I have also sent a message, let's see. Great find.
November 10, 20232 yr Very good company from what I have see. But if you factor in R15-20k for shipping you still looking at R60k when a DIY 14kwh can be done for less than R40k

November 10, 20232 yr Author I have asked them about local stock and warranty, lets see what they say, I think this might be where the Apexium might come in cheaper.

For now, I cannot seem to get the apexium cells for under 42K with bms. I have since seen a couple alternatives, like this gobel, Their reply to me was that they do not have local stock, and shipping is charged from the first 500kg. So a group buy of a minimum of 5 units would probably make it reasonable
November 10, 20232 yr Very nice, I saw that Svolt will be releasing a 280AH battery on castors like this Gobel Power battery. I believe they are expecting stock early 2024, I am very keen to see what price they offer. Gobel Power also use the Pace BMS, so I suspect I would be able to add it to my battery bank in parallel without issues. I think I will wait and see what price Svolt have on their 280ah battery compared to what it would cost to get this Gobel Power battery. The form factor is perfect for my situation, can be place nicely against the wall at the back of the garage and not interfere with anything or get in the way. Only issue is that it does not look as if the castors can be locked in place...
November 10, 20232 yr Author Received this so pricing is not so cheap, working on exchange rate of +_ R19 to dollar the Standard battery works out to R51K plus shipping. Edited November 10, 20232 yr by Greglsh

November 10, 20232 yr Yikes, very pricey all of a sudden. Interesting that they use an active balancer from another manufacturer, I'd prefer for them to use a Neey instead of the Heltec active balancer though.

Although the price with shipping is just too darn high. If they were to have a reseller in SA and ship multiple units that could bring the cost down nicely and make it worth while.

I can believe that, there is already a limited number of batteries with a good active balancer (other than DIY) and if the cells are graded properly and matched well that makes it even better. Having a cell with a capacity of say 265ah and another with say 285ah in the same battery would be limiting. We are certainly heading in the right direction here and now we will need to wait for others to follow suite. 3 minutes ago, WannabeSolarSparky said: Even at R70k that works out to R25k per 100AH and considering the quality and provenance of the battery and cells it beats almost all the other pre-built batteries currently available in SA. Not a bad price, although if one can get it for cheaper then why not do so? I feel that times are changing and 100ah batteries costing R30k or more is coming to an end. Under R25k for a 100ah battery is where it is at now in terms of good pricing. Quality wise, we will need to wait and see how they fare after a couple of years.

In a few years ( LONG before your current battery dies or warranty expires ) the new solid state high capacity batteries will start flowing onto the market, then we start all the testing, trying, moaning, crying all over again 🤪 100AH batteries will fade away into distant memory.

Hahaha, this is true but the testing and trying will be worth it. I guess it is just a cycle which is repeated as technological advances are made.
November 13, 20232 yr So my quote as this morning, for 5 units Shipping: 1399, and then you need to pickup at buffalo logistics Price per bat, $2188 BUT, MOQ is 10
November 13, 20232 yr Take a close look at the cells used for the 2 cheapest ones At those prices, and considering the cell quality, it's much cheaper to just buy a prebuilt bat from Apexium, just my 2c Edited November 13, 20232 yr by Pho3niX90
November 14, 20232 yr So just a small update, on the last post I replied to gobel the pricing doesn't fit the SA market well, they have actually gone and lowered it for us, which I think speaks volumes, and I am actually impressed Here is the updated pricing.

Never heard of that cell. Probably the reason for the price reduction
