Can also look into something like Tailscale, run a node on your LAN and that acts as the entry into your network from outside. No need to forward any ports etc

I second Tailscale.  It works beautifully.  And very user-friendly.

Free for up to 3 users.  Install the plugin for home assistant, install the app on your phone/laptop and whenever you want to connect just connect on tailscale and then access home assistant as if you're at home on your wifi.

I recently discovered a setting to autoconnect to Tailscale when im not on my home WIFI and its worked flawlessly. Its great coz i use my nodes as exit nodes and benefit from the on-LAN pihole adblocking

I currently use this:

But if I could get a free website I would transition to this:

Or if you dont mind paying something use NabuCasa which is the official one.

I took the cloudflare tunnel route. I bought a .co.za domain for R99 a year and used that to setup straight into HASS from the outside. No Issues with SSH or certificate issues. Works great.

Domain + cloudflare would be my preferred way, for either a static ip or dynamic. HA has a cloudflare plugin to update the ip as it changes with cloudflare. And cloudflare offers ddos mitigation on port 80:443

Native nabucasa was just too slow.

You can buy a domain from domains.co.za

yes you can, you can either create a subdomain, such as "home.domain.tld" or the top level "domain.tld".

Cloudflare does have a free tier
