What you need for something like this to succeed is a benevolent dictator. Someone who can be a hard-ass when you need it. Someone like Linus Torvalds. There are some legendary rants of his on the kernel list, he flamed one guy so bad (about breaking userland) that I bet you can still smell the smoke some years later. He can get away with it because he's a seriously good coder, and a good leader.

On this forum, the skillset is too diverse. We are not all programmers. We have day jobs. Those of us who do code don't use the same language or OS. I said this before, but the process was doomed from day one :-)

It was never what it is about, or shouldn't be.

When I was haggling with jdp over making aicc open source -- usually attempting my level best to do it half in jest, as it was quite clear from the beginning what his philosophy was -- my reason for that wasn't so much because I wanted the project to grow. It was mostly because the knowledge -- how to talk to that inverter -- should be free.

I've remarked many times over the last few days how people reinvent the wheel, not because they don't know how to collaborate or are just obstinate SOBs, but because wheels aren't exactly that hard to make in the first place. If we make it easier for people to make wheels, then we have already succeeded.

I like!!!

Agree with all SilverNodashi's and Plonksters views. I disagree with JDP though. Smiley faces are there to attempt to share facial expressions, for we are not face to face.

O, and I try not to stir, that is not nice, I rather try and elicit provocative thinking! :D Oeps, another facie!

Back to a very valid point.

No-one can tell me that they thought of swapping power sources using SOC, is their idea. That idea was born way back in 2010 / 2011, and shared at the time with Victron, Outback and Microcare in an attempt to get it working. So you all stole my idea!

Or maybe you thought of exactly the same problem, that volts do not work as SOC?

Ok, I will go with that one.

But seriously, Plonkster!!! This is all on YOU. You made me think of sharing the other day, again, and now here!, the wheels.

We both know there is little to no VS code for Windows Developers anywhere for Victron Mk2 that we could find? There may be more Windows developers out there, who may want to do software for their devices. So, it is two fold. One, they see what we did and 2, can re-do it in Linux, or stick with Windows.

So MY question to you, can you help us get that VS code wheel stable for the Mk2 (I HOPE you go the email by now)?

If we can do that, I will put that code on Github. Hell, YOU can upload it once we have taken what you gave back, and perfected it, to share. We put it up on Victron's blog / forum too.

Can you help us that WE can also share that wheel?

Ps. I REALLY do not want to give out unstable code to others, it is embaressing.

Often, the only time we are really honest is when we're sarcastic... and in internet land, when you pepper that thing with emoticons. But sometimes the emoticon does not erase the underlying tone. I intend this as constructive criticism. And I am smiling :-)

Nothing. I think google scores it too high on the spam scale and it throws it into /dev/null. Google drive or some file sharing service?

I make no guarantees. My previous experience with a MS language was "what the heck!? Did they really have to do EVERYTHING differently"... and even if that language was VB... I'm just saying, don't count on anything.

Hey, you may just see something in there and point us in a direction, or fix it on the spot ... we will not know!

Sent you another email account. You have checked your spam filter in Gmail? It is quite potent.

Naaa, not sure I agree with that.

It is all how the person wants to understand it.

Take our wifes astute abilities to analise everything we say ... sometimes we say and mean something just as we said it, plain old as is face value. No hidden meanings, ulterior motives nor sarcasm. If in doubt, ask. Poster can learn from it, clarify better and reader/s can relax and be less cautious.

People who don't know me, will (hopefully never) clearly see the difference between tongue in the cheek and being sarcastic. There will be no doubt left, no misunderstanding. To date all was tongue in the cheek, jokingly, never sarcastic, okay, maybe once or so when my buttons where really pounded. :D

And less we forget, the language / culture differences, not even to mention die verskille oor rugby!

Wat in Afrikaans dalk oulik is kan per ongeluk oorkom as sarkasties as die gehoor dalk Ingils se kant toe sou leun, met die Afrikaanse persoon salig onbewus daarvan.
From English to Afrikaans, seldom do we take offense or pick up on or care for sarcasm, as long as our Mothers are kept out of it, and you leave our rugby team alone, want dan soek jy mos nou onbetwisbaar en met intensie, moeilikhied.

So on forums, you must get a thicker skin, not interpret things to the negative or sarcastic side unless there is absolutely no doubt, and then you ask to confirm such.

Otherwise, die dinges met julle, elk like hom die facies! ;):D:ph34r: (rofl) (facepalm)

Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Enough said ...

I promise you, nothing at all. I can only guess that they have a spam-scoring similar to one I used years ago (before I got tired of maintaining spamassassin and treading that fine line between false positives and customers complaining they got 25 spams and two legit messages... to which I alwaus had to resist the response that they need to get more friends because 25 spam messages is not a problem.... only two legit ones is!)... anyway... that strategy is that if it scores particularly badly, you throw it away immediately. If it scores in the middle, it goes in the spam box. Otherwise it goes to inbox.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA ...  25 spam messages is not a problem.... only two legit ones are! ... THAT is not sarcasm, it is the honest truth! (rofl)

I am going to send you three emails, not attachments.

JDP ... Sorry pel, first to use BMV SOC to switch ... that was done in 2010/2011, long before Axpert was even here, or the forum, and I can prove that if I cared to.
Share the protocols? I was diplomatic, had them from Victron way back when they released it, again, before the Axpert.
You know I wanted to help, you nearly sold me AICC, then you chose to dish it our for free. Ps. No, I have NOT looked at the code, ever.
So sorry bud, no blame my side, or Edmund, for SolWEB is all new, compiled from what Morningstar, Victron and others have done, just in one system.

But JDP, seeing as you like to point fingers, what is this I hear about an Italian app that has been doing time switching since 2013?
Or about Jeremy O'Hare who did AC/DC switching on a Wizzbang SOC since 2014?
Or Powertime that has been doing both since 2015?

Sounds to me you did exactly in AICC what you now so easily like to blame others for doing, not?

@plonkster, see, no smiley faces ... and nope, I am not even sarcastic yet. Energy will ban me onetime for life.

My apologies if I upset you though.

Def not. I'm just hungry for more knowledge so when I spend money on my home system I wont join the bleeding edge and feeling a bit desperate that the only decent SA forum obviously has issues.

@Gerald_db, sorry for the above washing being aired. Has been building up for months now, all perfectly normal! All forums have this one time or another.

EDIT: Means the group / forum is maturing, more so if the Moderators allow it to work itself out positively.

TTT I am referring to the Axpert using the BMV. Jeremy O'Hare Only got the BMV this year, go check out his posts on Youtube. What don't you understand. I did not want to sell AICC I just wanted to get my money back for the controls.

Here is the full PM. I have nothing to hide. First you tried me and when I did not want to do a JV you pulled Ed closer and now you diss me where you first felt my pain.

Sjoe, must admit, I missed that one, not wanting to sell AICC, just wanting R5k back for controls? ... Stel jy nog belang om dit oor te vat. Ek soek basies net die geld terug wat ek betaal het on dit te bou.

Yes I felt your pain, I tried to help you, and myself, and as all can see from a "private message", I was friendly, supportive and cordial.

What is not clear there, as you where chatting with me re price / JV, you first posted the software for free on the forum and then informed me as in oh by the way type of way, AICC is now free. Let me tell you something, if anyone ever does that to you, I would bet you would not have been as cordial as I was at the time. It was quite a shock. But I let it go.

Then the fiasco's about AICC, it all just went downhill from there. What is on with this oak I wondered?

But when you started gunning for Edmund, here on a open forum, before he and I even joined forces, man, I am sorry, but that is where I had enough and my whole take on it all changed. And insult to injury, posting every now and then how we are all wrong in making our own way because you cannot make up your mind on AICC, keeping it secret, big promises, too busy with this magical new project of yours, magical because mentioning it and then saying you are not going to say anything about it, makes it magical, all that just started to really irk me.

So forgive me if you got under my skin one time to many, after the first round of me trying to help you. Wonder how you would have reacted if the tables where turned? Not well I would hazard a guess.

Seriously JDP, you have and are really confuxing the living dinges out of it and us all. You, me and Edmund with Plonskter on Victron, for he also tried I now "read", and all the others who wanted to help, we could have crafted some serious software together, sharing and all that, right down to it all done on Linux, for all the devices used by PF members.

You chose not do work with us. And before you say anything about Ed, remember, there are 5 sides to that story.

Now I am going to leave this all at that, said my piece one last time. I will back off, not intentionally try and aggravate you, just be the local TTT, as I was with you in the beginning. :D (there, the smiley thing, but just one, ok!)

But do understand, for that to work, this coin has two sides ne.

Over and out.

Wait, what? I've been fiercely independent from the beginning, because I'm the open source communist around here. I did preach to the man about it though (the benefits of being a communist), but seriously, I did not have relations with that Axpert.

That is what I meant, the communism part. :D

I preach to everyone. I'm a libertarian at heart. Do what makes you happy. If shooting yourself in the foot makes you happy, good for you. I'll even lobby the government to supply an ambulance. Some bad ideas need to be allowed because they provide learning opportunities to the idiots who promote those ideas. We all slug it out in the market place of ideas.

That's why your idea -- which I think has drawbacks -- should continue. Let it compete it out in the market place.

I honestly don't know what you guys are still fighting about. I'm sure you're both having a great time building the things that you're building. I suppose it's a personality thing. I have this temperament the old Greeks called Phlegmatic, which means that after I've spoken to all you guys and agreed with everything you said (even where you contradicted each other), I'll go away and do whatever the heck it was I wanted to do before I spoke to anyone.

But I stick to my guns though. I'm not contributing unless it remains open.

finally, someone who sees things the way I see them ;)

I will also only contribute if it's open.

Guys, lets take the chat here, this thread has now been properly and ultimately corrupted. Sorry Mark, I did try.

Hi All

If you are keen can you add your PV Output System Name to your signature.  It would be good to match the PVO System Name to the user on Powerforum.

Thanks

I see my system performs the best in the group at this stage. That is if I look at Efficiency. So the changes I made seem to work 100%.

Perhaps you should share a link to your feed so others can see how it works?

Quick question - can one search for the Southern Africa team ?

If I try from most of the pages on pvoutput it's impossible to find?

Also

Is there anyway to favorite a team in

Pvoutput?

I don't think I've found one yet.
