Hi Guys,

I have 16 Trojan T105 batteries that is EOL.

I have asked around in Cape Town and the best I could get was from a golf cart shop that offered me R50 per battery.

Surely there must be somebody that would give me more from them?

I have tried the battery shops, but they not even remotely interested.

FNB that imports the batteries, also said as it's imported units, they will not give me anything for recycling them.

Scrap metal dealers offer  prices of between  R8 - R12 per KG.

@The Terrible Triplett, has a number of a good place in the Cape if I remember correctly. 

Dixon batteries. You can give them a call.

Ja, I found one, must search for them again. Prices varies all the time.

Don't think they pay for scrap lead. If you bought batteries from them, they knock off the price of the trade in If you bring the batts back to them.

Those are very good price with collection ... in my future carting half a ton of batts is not something I look forward to. 🙂

You can try Errard from E J Recycling - 084 645 6978. 

He collects and currently pays around R11.30 / Kg which for the Trojan T105 at 28 Kg will be around R316 each.

Do any of the batteries still have some useable capacity left over? I am considering making up a mixed Trojan battery bank and would be interested in 4 batteries.

8 of them is dead. Mostly there is a single cell that has died.

The other 8 is still ok, but they using lots of water. They work ok, but I am not home so keeping up with the water consumption is a pain.

I am sure we can make a plan.

 

From my experience once they start using a lot of water, the end is nigh.

@Carl The Trojan T-105's mentioned are 3 cell (6V) batteries, so you would probably need 8 for your Powerstar

P.S. I also have 8 old Trojan T-105 lying in my Garage for the last 2 years because they are finished and I haven't gotten around to recycling them yet, so if you

do find a place that will collect, I would be interested (I will give them away for free if it saves me the trouble of carting them around)

What price did they offer you?

As stated above;

R11/kg for collection.

R11.50/kg when you drop off.

I so hope you are wrong.

I had the same said to me few months back and once I tested the batts, hydrometer and load testing, they were all in the green.

Personally, and I COULD be wrong, I think worked them too hard.

In my old T125 bank the battery that was always in the green and had the highest SG readings was eventually the first to fail.

O yes!!! Well, I have LOTS of spares now. 🙂 

And I can add a lithium bank one day to the lead acids ...
