Yes, python uses whitespace to delimit blocks. It takes getting used to... about a week. It's not that hard, good programmers program in blocks anyway. If you're indenting so deep that the code marches off the screen, you're doing it wrong anyway.

(I code in a terminal 80 characters wide, specifically so that unnecessarily wide code bothers me).

My wife just finished a Haskell course (she's quite functional that way), and many colleagues code in Scala, and from this second hand exposure I'm beginning to learn that the python guys are leaning towards that kind of thinking too. It's not new, Lisp had some of these ideas several decades ago... but I like it :-)

Very true. I must just get use to it😆

Hehe, hmm what to do. What you guys think?

I would stick with software as a category and then have each piece of software have its own section (software will evolve to add hardware and features... I'm sure of that...  Mike will need SolarMon to monitor his Inifini AND Wind Turbine for example :)

Description or first post then refers the the hardware its supports and this is edited by the developers for example on a regular basis outlining progress and changes, etc.  See the following example....

Is there a way to PIN Posts/Announcements at the top of a thread?

Looks Good. Sure we can pin. If you guys can present me with a breif document with a hierarchy of subforms I can make it happen no problem.

Remember the forum belongs to you guys. So let me know what I can cook up.

Sincerely

Jason

Initial List:

  • SolarMon
  • Victron
  • AICC
  • MPPSolarPatrol
  • MPPTracker
  • Watchpower
  • TeamViewer

Just ideas...

SolarMon - solWEB

SolarMon is being replaced with solWEB.

Edmund will be around shortly.

Hi all. Confirmed as per TTT!

Very excited about this! Exciting times ahead with many many benefits to existing and future users. Watch this (the) space....

So

AICC (if jdp wants to) under Axpert umbrella

Infini version (initial post by SuperDIY)

Kleva's version (led by Kleva under Axpert)

Manie's version (led by Manie under Axpert)

Solar Bob's version (led by Solar Bob under Axpert)

solWeb (multi product) listed as it develops under TTT plonky Ed and others.

Victron (under TTT and plonky)

Watchpower (for those who are still in the medieval ages)

and the Infini equivalent of Watchpower (SolarPower I think it is called).

Listings can be added and subtracted as things develop and folk cooperate and new offerings are made.

I think MPPSolar Patrol and others written by folk not on the forum should not be included as one is unlikely to get any feedback.

I like the summary Chris!!!

Yes, I am sure there will be others, when we have released the new version, whom will like what we have done and wants to add their devices.

I'm happy Chris - I just suggest we don't list Software under a Hardware label (the hardware it supports is a feature of the software itself... (eg: Pi))

Have a separate software Category with various software under this and then when people add features (for example AICC and automation) things don't get messy.  solWeb is a good example of this...

Happy with Chris suggestion but I think you need a hardware label as how would you know what software is for what inverter without opening all of them first?

Not sure where to put this compliment to Victron, as we are still getting there.

Have a spare MPPT75/15 controller. When I connected the cables the last time, I must have damaged the connector screw for it just kept on turning, cannot tighten the wire. Cannot open the unit, it is sealed.

So I sent it back tot the supplier asking for repairs. They in turn could not repair it so they contacted Victron.
Victron says it is still under warranty, like 5 year warranty, and they will replace the unit.

But, as I said to the supplier, maybe Victron must change the design.

So what a smart company to replace a unit for a stripped thread.

I think Mark was referring to the hardware it operates on (Pi? - not sure. Mark is a lecturer and I have always had great difficulty following lecturers' train of thought - hence my problematic academic career :P) . I agree with you listing per inverter and then sub-listings per software version AICC, SolarMon etc.

Now now... :)

For Chris...a suggested structure (I'm going to type slowly for you...):

Software (not under inverters)

  • solWeb (Axpert, Infini, Victron BMV, Pi)
  • AICC (Axpert, Victron BMV, Automation Hardware)
  • etc

To be honest. It is pointless to have everybody build their own software that does the same thing for the same type of inverter. It is a total waste of time if everybody builds another version of the same thing. I have so much other work to do with my other projects that makes money that I only work on AICC when I have spare time. So I guess I need to make a decision. Am I going to keep on with AICC or just stop it here and let the forum continue because as I stated it is a waste of time if everybody does the same thing. I build AICC as there was nothing that could do what it does. I chose the platform for a reason, its very fast and does not take a lot of resources and anybody can install it, With USB it is even easier. Maybe somebody needs to do a independent test on performance and ease of use between all the different systems. And then we continue with that project as a team. I build AICC as a play project, only reason I charged for it was to recover the money I paid for the controls I bought. Anyway, I guess I have other work to do. Enjoy.

I used up all 64kb of code space on PC Logo, then started working on a method to swap code out to floppy, moved to Pascal. In grade 8, school adopted a new curriculum, but as it goes with these things it is always a little stale, so it was TP 3.3 (though 4.0 had been out some time) with a Turtle Graphics add-on. I had that teacher so frustrated, especially when 5.0 came out, I would quickly rush the assignments, then put in the other disk.

Then came TP 7.0... with TurboVision "graphics", and MOUSE support. I was in heaven. The school acquired one 80486 computer... I practically hogged that thing.

But then I went to university and the world that I knew exploded. Redhat 4.1 (which actually sucked, but it beat the pants of Windows 95), skipped 4.2 (which was the better one), actually bought an official 5.0 CD (which sucked)... then 5.1, 5.2... 6.x, and then RH made a version 7.0 that came with a development compiler (which changed the whole ABI). World explodes again, this time Debian is the cause.

The only thing I am not proud of is the brief stint in the middle when I coded PHP. The rest was all fun :-)

Don't tell my mom about the PHP thing. I told her I play the piano at the local brothel, and she's okay with that now.

Jip but I thought going one further Software

  • Axpert
  1. AICC
  2. SolarMon
  3. Manie's
  4. Kleva
  • Infini
  1. SuperDIY
  2. Mike
  • Victron
  1. Plonky
  2. TTT

...and so on.

... I agree with you but it is going to happen because each one will have a subtle difference and  each to their own. If Adolf Hitler had won the war we would all be driving Volkswagens.

I had not choice but to do my own thing JDP. :P

I ALWAYS complicate things, ask Edmund and my developers. :D

solWEB does not fall under Victron. It is Victron inverters, Victron MPPT controllers, Morningstar PWM controller, BMV's from 600-702, Axperts and probably soon other devices.

And if you have 2 separate systems running like I have, you record all the data from all the devices and then display it separately.

Would keep solWEB separate from specific hardware. :D

Yeah, I had to teach you about YAGNI just yesterday :-)

(everyone else, YFGI. That's short for "just bloody google it".)
