  1. You have fortunately spent your money on one of the best inverters currently on the market. It has many features, and because of this takes time to familiarize one self with the potential the unit offers. The best ways to learn, are to read the manual, ask the installer to fully explain all features, watch youtube videos, and ask for help on forums. You must understand this is not just an off grid inverter, but can morph into any type of installation you want, so by default it will require more of a complicated setup.👍 Check out the CEO of SunSynk on youtube here:- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCirp6bMpAK7AvyKnAo-14FA/featured Hope you start to enjoy your inverter and it's potential in the near future, as you do have a great machine.
  2. With the world as your market, it is unlikely that sales will die, and as more solar installations are completed, with worldwide energy problems, business looks good for SA. With any technology, if you don't provide what the customer wants (or someone does it better), you will eventually loose market share. (Unfortunately monopolies excluded) Call me old fashioned, but I have never paid for any subscription software, and never will. Everyone has freedom of choice. 👍
  3. I have Solar Assistant and am very happy with the software. The data can be saved off the charts to a spreadsheet, but no actual "backup" option to external sources via USB or network. Maybe this needs to be requested? I know some other systems require a monthly subscription, but SA is a one time payment, and lifetime updates, which I like.
  4. Yip, for myself and family the ROI is absolutely irrelevant. The saving on power costs and ignoring all load-shedding (power independence) is what is important. 👍 Like you, I am enjoying my SunSynk 8.8 kW inverter, 2x Hubble AM-2 5.5 kW batteries, and 20x Canadian Solar panels.
  5. Welcome to the forum, and when all is installed may you enjoy the power independence. With two batteries you should be able to set the discharge Amps to 185A to supply full load from batteries.
  6. Ground the frames to an earth spike. (lightning rod earth) The inverter must be connected to the incoming Eskom earth, and/ or House earth. (protective earth)
  7. Pretty install, bust must be in the space station, as zero gravity picture. 🤣 I see battery comms installed, good to see.👍
  8. Yip, there was a thread on this forum about the double plug extension chords and a generator in a complex. The worst that would happen if the "receiver" didn't switch off his MCB, then the 20A plug trip would go, or the "supplier's" generator would trip or die of an overload. 🤣
  9. Nope, don't know of any commonly used inverter that will back feed (export) while load-shedding (No AC input). My SunSynk will absolutely not export without Eskom connected. I've tried it, but no OP voltage. I'm inquisitive and test things.😂
  10. Like most of the other suggestions here, I would get an 8 kW inverter. I too have a SunSynk 8.8 kW inverter, and have no problem running everything including the electric stove / oven on essential load. When load-shedding arrives, just don't do it all together. I run inverter welders, Concrete mixers, air compressors, etc all during load-shedding on battery or sun power no problem. Just keep your total load below 8 kW during load-shedding, and 12 kW when Eskom is available. 👍 Also, if you can afford it, install 12 kWp of panels for those bad weather days.
  11. If you update your router with the google DNS of 8.8.8.8, this might help. Oops, I see that is what the above link says.😂
  12. I don't understand why the Australian guys would do that, as the solar array on the roof is "absolutely" a lightning conductor, and you don't want lightning discharge fed into your DB, but routed directly to ground with the shortest possible route. The SA wording is correct, as each array should have its own earth spike (shortest path to ground). All panels should be connected with an earth strap, and an exit point to ground. Clamps and rails corrode and cant be relied on for proper grounding. 👍
  13. Lovely clean setup. With no load-shedding, he must be a politician or you did an install in another country. 😂
  14. Yip, just about anything that can keep the lights on is a good thing. Just be careful though, because of these desperate times, there are many crooks willing to swindle you out of your hard earned money. 🤔
  15. My 2x Hubble AM-2's are from 2021/06, and have done 112 cycles and 111 cycles. Both still have a capacity of 110A, and a SOH = 100%. I use:- Float V = 52.6V Absorption V = 53.6V Equalization V = 53.5V As can be seen below, after power fail, both batteries are in Equalization mode. 👍
  16. I'm in KZN, and have family in the solar business. It all depends where you are though.👍
  17. I currently have a SunSynk 8.8 kW inverter which works with an old Faraday 7.5 KVA petrol generator. I still have it connected to a change over switch to take the place of Eskom. With the Voltage and Frequency opened up, it runs the house through the inverter, and charges the batteries too. The battery charging current must be brought down to allow for house loads too. Never push the generator to its capacity, or the inverter will drop it out. Depending on the generator you will have to find out how far you can "push it" with a total load. 👍 With my panels and batteries, I haven't used the generator this year. May you begin to enjoy your experimentation and expensive hobby, as Eskom goes down the plug hole. 😂
  18. Install these two devices, they will protect from load-shedding spikes, lightning induced spikes and noise from other users bad air-cons, etc. AC SPD 2P House Surge Protector protection Protective Low-voltage Arrester Device https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002580754965.html TOMZN VPD1 40A 60A 220V reconnect over and under voltage protection protective device relay with Voltmeter voltage monitor https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32812955391.html Source these or similar devices locally, or if buying from Aliexpress, choose Fedex IP as shipping method.
  19. @bloupotlood I feel your pain, sorry man.😓 I am one who will always side on freedom of choice above ridiculous regulations, but with a complex, the responsible parties will always be held accountable if something goes wrong, and court action is initiated. If the "farmer" electrocutes and kills his neighbors child, he will use all the regulations to save himself and throw you under the bus. I suggest you call a general meeting with all tenants, and print out the article in the link above, with special attention to point 4 and their extension chord usage. May you have a successful and happy conclusion to this problem.
  20. If you are in a complex, legalities can get out of hand quickly if something goes wrong and someone is electrocuted. If you are in the "bush / farmlands" legalities are a lot more lax, and almost anything is possible. If you are responsible for the complex, you are in an awkward position. https://www.sunburstelectric.co.za/everything-you-need-to-know-about-generator-compliance/
  21. When you say back-feeding, I suspect you mean back to a neighbor with his willing and eager consent. There is no way they can back-feed to the entire complex with all the MCB's still active. As others have said, this will cause great fireworks when Eskom restores. What I've heard people do is make up an extension chord with two "16A Plugs", they plug the one side in the generator side plug point, and the other side thrown over the neighbors wall. The receiving (eager) neighbor makes sure his MCB is OFF, and plugs the other end into an open plug, and "hey presto" the house is powered again. This does work if loads are maintained withing 20A circuit breaker limits, and the generator, BUT there is NO EL protection for the receiving neighbor, and he will have to trust that his "supplier's" EL is working. Your life, your choice, this is the burden of freedom. 🤔
  22. Great to hear of another happy @Leshen customer. Welcome to the forum, and hope you enjoy your "new" backup system.
  23. The lesson we all learn is, hobbies and fiddling sometimes cost money. Great to hear you are back up and running. 👍
  24. On my SunSynk 8.8 kW machine under System Mode, there is a setting for "Max Sell Power", maybe this will work?
