PurePower got a reaction from Clint in Pylontech US2000 Plus TeardownIn December 2020, I unfortunately fell victim to a lightning surge from the grid. Various items in my house was impacted. Thankfully my Axpert inverters(x2) survived with no issues, although the Raspberry Pi that runs ICC was effected, Pi booted but USB and network ports dead. My Pylontech bank(5 x US2000 Plus) was impacted as well. The communication ports(console, RS485, CAN etc) was impacted on all 5 Pylontech modules. Fortunately they were still charging and discharging normally but i could not get any info from them. I sent them back to the supplier to get a full report. The report stated that the CMU boards in all 5 modules had to be replaced and Pylontech warranty does not cover surges, so I had to claim from insurance. Got all approvals and all boards were replaced. I commissioned the entire bank after the repairs was done. After a few days I was noticing that 2 modules cell voltages was going over 3.65v during charge and these units were throwing High Voltage and Over voltage errors in the logs. When this happens, it stopped accepting any current and waits for those effected cells voltages to drop below 3.5v before accepting a charge again. This happened over a few days and the SOH counts were increasing for these 2 modules. I decided to pull them out of the bank and to my surprise they were swollen! I was actually was shocked(no pun) when I saw this. I returned those 2 modules back to the supplier and there new report concluded that the cells are damaged from the surge and irrepairable. Their recommendation was to replace those 2 modules, which i did with a US3000C and a US2000.
I collected the damaged modules and in the spirit of science, being inquisitive and sharing knowledge I decided to salvage some parts before disposing the cells. I took the following pics:
Bottom cover off, we can see 3 x 16v battery packs(notice them being swollen), connected in series. Power Management Unit(PMU) board on the bottom left and Communication Management Unit(CMU) on the bottom right.

If you counted, there are 10 pouches per pack. A total of 30 pouches in a single US2000 Plus module, equates to 1.6v per pouch. BatteryView software shows 15 cells, so i am guessing that 2 pouches make up a cell of 3.2v.

PurePower reacted to Bobster. in City Power New PrePaid Tariff 2024/25OK. Earlier this week I bought my usual R400. I've been buying this amount each month since the current tariff was introduced. If I'm in arrears, it's been accruing for several months.
Today, in the interests of scientific research, I bought another R150 worth. This all went on units, nothing deducted for service charges.
So I conclude that the minimum monthly payment is R400. Follow my method and over a year you could save enough for a six pack.

PurePower got a reaction from fhocorp in Pylontech US2000 Plus TeardownI had my faulty US3000C replaced under warranty and before I sent it back I took some pictures to share with everyone. I did not strip it down completely for obvious reasons. Would have been interested to see what microcontroller and mosfets were used in this model. Not my best pictures but some are better than none.
Things to note; the battery packs which houses the cell pouches are now encased in some form of metal with a plastic top cover. The other distinct difference is the new board, now only one single board that handles Comms and Power management, probably costs less from a manufacturer perspective but this is the new V10R04 board revision. The same board is found in the US2000C models. Currently v1.9 firmware is available for them. The other notable difference is the orange cables joining each battery pack in series.
I was happy to see the improvements made. So thumbs up to Pylontech!

For small purchases half goes to the service charge and half for electricity and VAT (otherwise people who buy a little each week will have problems). So the minimum you should buy a month is R400. This settles the service charge and gives you 62.5 units.
I don't know if they show it on the statement. But neighbours have reported that if they skip a month, they get for R400 + VAT the next month. So if M = months since last purchase or since July 1 (whichever is later) then you calculate it as
M * 200 * 1.15

@Pie No problems to charge 3x Pylontech US 3000 batteries with 5 kW Axpert. Use Solarassistant to monitor the state of batteries and monitor and do settings of Inverter remotely. Battery tipe set to User. Float voltage set at 52.5v Using this setup for more than 4 years . No communication between Inverter and batteries. Can also use multiSIB software with Solarassistant cable to check battery .There is a SOP for Pylontech batteries with Axpert inverter. Reduced floatcharge from 53.2v to 52.5v for better battery life suggestion of @Coulomb

PurePower reacted to Youda in Youda's off-grid LABPuzzling it is, but there's still a pattern going on. If you open all the historical BIN files, you can see this:
firmware line X = US3000 only firmware line Y = US3000C + US2000C + UP5000 firmware line Z = US5000 BTW: Support for UP5000 was included in the US3000C firmware line for years. Contrary, US5000 has it's own firmware line, incompatible with everything else.
So, even if US5000 at FW1.9 needs a heartbeat to stay alive (as we are being told now) this has no effect on US2000C and US3000C. At least, until Pylontech will decide to implement it specifically for these.

I noticed there is also support for UP5000 as well on these versions.

PurePower reacted to Youda in Youda's off-grid LABThen I checked the power supply that's integrated into OpenEVSE's main board. And surprise #2 occurred, as the power supply had more than 80°C.

For a shame, the thermal measurement sensor in the OpenEVSE is a part of LCD display board, that sits just in front of the aforementioned MINMAX ABF-04D125 power supply. Given there's high ambient air temperature, plus heat from the relay, plus heat from the power supply, it's no surprise that the wallbox feels too hot sometimes.
Since I cannot do much with the relay, I searched info on the MINMAX ABF-04D125 and found that it's has efficiency of just 75% and it's output power is quite low too (0,25A@12V and 0,12A@5V). That would explain why it gets so hot when under a load.
So I removed the supply from the board and bolted on two separate power supplies, one for 12V and one for 5V. With their power rating (0,45A@12V and 0,7A@5V) I believe that they will run much coller.

I have 4 x Axpert 4kw/5kva inverters. I currently only use 2 of them in parallel and 2 are backups. All are fully functional with the latest firmware from the Australian forum. They all have parallel cards in them and i have all the relevant cables required too. The 2 in use are paired up with my 10 x Pylontech battery bank.
Looking to upgrade to a Sunsynk inverter.
