My call will be a ITS 4.7kW and yes I know the unit as I have mine close to 10yrs. As it aged the power use has gone up a bit to 1.5kW. It is still a lot less than an element.
Reason for 4.7kW is only due to longer heating time at 0-5 degrees C if you not going to call up the element. I have never used my element and it is not even wired.

Let me help you here, you are not dealing with the reticulated neatral connection in your residential bounds. The frame substructure of pv has no reference to your live and earth-bonded neatral. We are trying to earth these frames against lighning surges and plus minus nothin else.
And no, the roof will only blow off in the Netflix movies.

I'm regularly generating over 7kW at about 11h00.
Usually around 7.6 - 7.8 between 12h30 and 14h00.
Sometimes getting 8.2kW around 13h00, but difficult to measure as my batteries are charged by then, and the load is much less.

The value was about 40K and 100s of excuses and promises but no delivery. So I opened a case of fraud with the police. Someone recommended contacting the bank and I thought yeah right, as if they are going to help me. Well, I don't know how the bank did it, but the company refunded the full amount.
My original purchase was done by EFT payment. I think credit card payments would offer more protection.
I cannot recall if the bank in question asked me for the police case number. I don't think so.

Could not repurchase at more than the NERSA tariff but COULD offer an extra 25c per kWh incentive for one year. Got the net consumer requirement waived for their customers for one year. I think this could make a big difference. Before I went to PV I was using 13 to 14 kWh per day. Now I use 5 per day on a really bad week, mostly it is 1.something. So I have to sell back 1.something-aLittleBit. Again this is law, nothing COJ can do about it except apply for an exemption (as COCT did) Are working on getting the price of the meter down. A complicating factor in my case is that I've been a pre-paid customer for years. If I were on the default post-paid package I'd be getting that R700 odd in flat fees anyway and so wouldn't notice it. But the meter would still be a killer.
I really would give my surplus away for the greater good, if I could so at no cost. I figure I would have 2 to 4 kWh to export most days (assuming I can figure out the settings on my inverter), so I would not be getting a huge amount back. They can have that for free, but if it costs me money then that's not for free.

That could be a case where the amount of solar power generation is lower than the total power demand, like a battery-less grid-tied inverter just supplementing/reducing the draw from Eskom. Assuming there is always demand for the power to be used up, which is less likely for residences during the daytime, but more likely for businesses.
After that storage always adds costs (varying amount depending on battery type) and reduces your returns. In the worst case it can add so much cost per kWh that it's cheaper just to use Eskom when it's available (most likely the case with lead-acid batteries), while with lithium batteries you can still get away with a lower total cost per kWh.
Obviously Eskom is not always available, but that's not a ROI topic, then you're comparing the cost of power storage to the loss of income.

I have 2 geysers - The main one is a evacuated tubes based and the second is a normal geyser in a garden cottage.
I use a timer (GeyserWise) to turn on at 10:30am and off at 17:00pm and again at 05:00am-06:00am.
Normally by 10:30am, I have enough Solar PV to dump some free electricity into the geysers.

At R 2.89 (now) / kWh that's R 58,500 in saving.
Battery is R26,000.
Even, 4000 cycles * 4 kWh = 16MWh.
At R 2.89 (now) / kWh that's R 46,200 in saving.
This is not taking Eskom price increases into account, R3.41 from June...

Batteries also age and lose capacity, it does not matter if you use them 50% or 80%. The gradually degrade
Effectively your battery can only do one cycle per day with solar power (you take 4500 cycles then are talking 12 years which is outside the supposed warranty, if they honour it). If you discharge it every day down to 10% as per your calculation you will have a gradual loss of storage but after 3-4 years you will probably only have 90% of the original capacity so the power stored becomes less every year. I cycle my batteries hard but rarely hit 20%, on rainy days I only manage to charge them to 60% and deplete them down to 20%.
I only managed to discharge just over 1,09MWh from my 10kWh over 6 months despite my best efforts to maximise it. It is not that easy.
The electricity prices might still bring the ROI down, but I am expecting lots of cheap batteries as the EV market matures and more battery factories get built. Looking forward to getting 80-100kWh in storage a few years down the line (5-7 years) but for now Eskom will have to fill the gaps

No more load shedding. Reduced my municipality bill by +_ R900/month. So far used 1.4 MW out of my battery. @ R 1.8 per unit = R 7,200 according with my calculations I've saved +_ R 16,000.00, best investment ever. See my battery dashboard use in the last 6 months, I must add only use the battery for load shedding.
