March 1, 20224 yr HI I have a deye 8kw inverter. I have tried to set TIME OF USE SETTINGS but they don't seem to take. It just continues with the previous settings regardless of what I change them to. I have tried several different settings and don't get the results. Will it help if I did a restart of the inverter once I have the settings I want programmed into time of use.
March 1, 20224 yr KBS, Once you have entered the data you want, have you made sure you have clicked on the "Tick" bottom right hand corner circled in red to save the options you have selected? MdF
March 3, 20224 yr Author Hi Mdf Yes I have clicked the bottom right hand tick. I have even done a reboot of the whole system and still no changes. Thank you for your reply.
March 3, 20224 yr Author These were the last settings I put in to try and make the battery discharge at 3am and it still starts to discharge at 11pm until it gets to 40% and then stays at 40% until the PV has enough to recharge.
March 3, 20224 yr Hi KBS, start your first block (top left) with 00:00 (12 at night) and end your last block (bottom right) at 00:00 again, so you cover 24hr from top to bottom. Might work, I know the Deye inverters are finnicky with the time slots.
March 3, 20224 yr Hi KBS, Below is what I currently have running on my 5kw Deye: (1) From 12pm midnight to 4am the battery will power the house and potentially run down to a SoC of 40%. (2) From 4am to 8am the same as 1 above but with the sun coming up, PV will start to run the house and charge the batteries. (3) From 8am to 12pm solar is running the house and fully charging the batteries up to a SoC of 95% in preparedness for the coming evening. (4) From 12pm to 4pm, what's left of solar runs the house and trickles in to the batteries charging the batteries up to a SoC of 95% in preparedness for the coming evening. (5) From 4pm to 8pm the batteries start to discharge but this is over dinner time when there is quite a draw on the system so I only go down to a SoC of 80% (I'm still figuring out what the best SoC will be for this Time of Use as I am sure I can get to 75% and still have enough in case there is evening loadshedding). Hope this will help you. Otherwise there may be a fault on your inverter and its not "saving" your changes. MdF
March 6, 20224 yr Author Hi MdF and JL10 I changed the Time Of Use settings to start at 00:00 and end with 00:00 as you suggested and now my battery discharge times are working perfectly. Thank you for your advice Much appreciated
August 25, 20223 yr Dears, I have a similar problem in time of use. I don't want to use the schedule. I ticked off time oh use and save the action. When I enter back, I see time of use ticked on again. Any advise on how to solve it?
September 16, 20223 yr I want to use the grid to charge the batteries only if it is lower than a certain level, and rather charge it when the sun comes out ,but now with the mains available,it still discharges the batteries.
September 27, 20223 yr Hi KBS I've just installed a 5Kw GSL inverter they are the same product. Alone with 2 x 10Kw GSL Batteries with a 4Kw solar array. With the Grid charge ticked and the battery set at 100% the inverter will pull from your solar then the grid during these periods to feed your consumption. Here in Scotland I have a cheap grid tariff from 2am until 6am so this is the times I have the Grid charge ticked with the battery set at 80%. This means as the sun comes up my batteries are sitting at 80% and the Solar feeds the house then the tops up the batteries during the day. For the other times I have the battery set to 40% so the grid will only kick in when the SOC reaches 40% or I pull more than 5Kw from my solar and battery. With this set up my grid use is next to zero during the day and I top up my batteries during the cheap rate at night to 80%. This works for me with 20Kw of battery storage. Hope that helps

MdF Hi, got my system installed a few days ago and would like the battery to start running at 4am with no grid charging until 3pm. I understand the answer but where do you charge from the grid on your setup or don't I understand how it works, thanks for any help

I understand the answer but where do you charge from the grid on your setup or don't I understand how it works, thanks for any help to charge from grid you need to have the Grid charge tickbox selected at the time frame you want the grid to charge the batteries. From that image the user is not charging batteries from grid - only letting the solar charge the batteries. This is all done on the System > Work Mode screen
May 24, 20233 yr Is there a automatic way with deye inverter or an app or webservice to do this: == Always avoid buying from Grid == 7 - 8 Discharge Battery to 20%. Sell from battery. House load is also covered. (Morning peak price) 8 - 12 Dont charge the batteri, prefer selling. But use batteri if solar does not cover house load. (Good prices, Charge later when cheaper, low house load, much solar) 12 - 20 Charge before selling. Try to charge the batteri to full from solar. Unless It is needed for house load. Sell what cannot be stored. (Charge when cheapest) 20 - 22 Discharge battery down to 50%. Sell from battery. House load is also covered by discharge. (Evening peak price) 22 - 7 cover house load from battery to empty. Dont Sell.

May 29, 20233 yr Hi, We have a 5kVA Deye Inverter and a 5.5kW Hubble battery and I want to set up the time of use as it currently just runs automatically. In other words, we are not using Eskom as little as possible. Even when the battery is at 100% it pull from the grid to load the battery when our solar panels are producing enough power for the home. As you can gather, I am not technically minded and am not getting much help from the installer in this regard. They basically did the installation, put the Solarman app on my phone and that was it. Is this something I can attempt to do myself (with the help of YouTube where there are several videos that show you how to) or must I rather get someone to do it for me? I really don't want to cause damage or do something that I don't know how to undo.

Thanks it will only cause issues if you use the grid peak shaving functionality (if you electricity provider offers TOU from the grid). if you are in SA then you wont use it as we do not have time of use tarrifs (from eskom)
June 2, 20233 yr Hi @Erla I'm in a similar boat, wanting to start customizing a few settings on the inverter, like time of use, but it's not that clear which settings are dangerous and which are safe. My installer warned me not to touch _anything_ so that made me kinda nervous, but time of use seems pretty simple. Did you end up changing yours?

Its a safe approach BUT I do believe you should know how to manage the device. There ARE settings you shouldn't touch, but many of them are pretty safe as long as you know and understand the impact - thats what this forum is here for 🙂

From what I have observed, the "start time" on the first and last blocks must be on the following and preceding days respectively i.e on different days after midnight. I have 06:00-08:00 on the first row and 18:00-06:00 on the last row (of course with other times in between) and TOU works as expected. Previously when I incorrectly had 23:00-06:00 and 18:00-23:00 on the first and last blocks respectively, settings for the first row would be ignored.
June 12, 20233 yr @splunker I haven't done it yet as I need time to focus properly. But my installer eventually came and explained how to. It seems pretty straightforward. You can also find how-to videos on YouTube.
