If possible I would split it into 2 strings of 7, then connect them in parallel at the combiner box.

Also, if one panel in the series is shaded, it influences the output of the entire string.

You have to however see what the max current on the MPPT is, make sure your string of 10 does not exceed this, cause it will most likely limit the output of the 10 panels, or even worse, cave in.

The number of panels in a string does not change the current. 

A two panel  string will deliver the same current as a ten panel string.

The 2 strings of 7 will produce double the current at half the voltage than if the 14 were in series.

Yes as indicated the 4 inseries will reduce the voltage in the 10 in series to their voltage. It would be like wasting 6 panels.

Most of the older inverters that could take up to 500V were max of 11A to the single MPPT.

Physically it is possible, but not a good idea. The VOC of the one string would be 390V (assuming you have an average sized panel putting out around 39V as a random example) and the other string would have a VOC of 156V. The one string would severely affect the other one if in parallel. 

If by chance you have an inverter with two MPPT’s (like a Sunsynk or Deye) then you could do it without paralleling the two strings.
