March 13, 20224 yr Saw this today ... Townhouse in Gordons Bay severely damaged by a gel battery explosion. What would cause this?
March 13, 20224 yr By the looks of the cable, a lot of heat were present. Wrong and too high of a charge, short circuit?? I don't like Osaka batteries. Heard too many bad stories and there were/are fakes/copies floating around. (China copy from a copy from a copy..) Edited March 13, 20224 yr by DavidB

March 13, 20224 yr LA batteries produce hydrogen and oxygen when they are charging, some LA batteries vent this during the charging process, all that is missing is an ignition source. The look of the wires points to a short? Edited March 13, 20224 yr by I84RiS
March 14, 20224 yr A colleague of mine's car battery exploded on the way to work many years ago (a Ford XR3, to date the story). All that remained were some bits of plastic clamped to the end of the battery leads. Also a lot of battery acid all over the engine and underneath the bonnet. He had a new battery fitted and all was fine, so it must have been a short circuit inside the battery itself.
March 14, 20224 yr I saw a caravan battery exploding and it was connected to a small 5A charger. In this case we think some plates went into a short circuit. The whole top was blown clear off.
March 15, 20224 yr guessing would be battery's placed right next to next other with little to no spacing, 1 develops a bad cell, short circuits, heat builds up fast, transfers said heat to the surrounding (were good ?) battery's, cascade effect, possibly in a room with no ventilation, add a spark and a boom. I had a 200ah sla with a bad cell, the heat coming off it was actually quite substantial, dangerous in fact.
