Warlok Posted May 14, 2022 Posted May 14, 2022 (edited) Hubble Lithium AM-2 51V 100Ah. R 24,917.05 Pylon UP5000-GCS 4.8kWh Li-Ion Solar Battery 48V. R 23,300.00 So, another year has passed and I still haven't bought a new battery. Found these two batteries on the Powerstore. Some might know my setup due to previous post, but here goes.... MKS4048 Axpert clone. (Yip, the bloody thing still works, and actually works well) 6*400w Canadian solar panels 4*100ah lieng long agm batteries (just about to explode under any load) My base load is about 500w (100w when fridge/freezer cycles) While geyser on, 1600w (10:00 - 14:00) (18:00 - 19:00) (04:00- 05:30) Which battery will be better with my setup? My aim is to at least use it between 04:00 to 05:30 to run the geyser. I've added a few pics. Node Red and a Pi3 running solpiplog. I can program it to turn the fridge/freezer off in the morning while the geyser is on. Edited May 14, 2022 by Warlok Added picture BritishRacingGreen 1 Quote

Nexuss Posted May 14, 2022 Posted May 14, 2022 Pylon UP5000 for sure ! Especially since your consumption level is staying below 2,4kw. hoohloc, P1000 and Piper 3 Quote

Thanks, I am leaning towards the UP5000, since maybe I can use pylonlog to connect to the battery. Anybody else using solpiplog and pylonlog on a Pylon? Quote

Actually that's Node Red pulling the MQTT values from a raspberry pi3 connected via usb to the inverter. This is how most of the flow looks like. BritishRacingGreen 1 Quote
Warlok Posted May 14, 2022 Author Posted May 14, 2022 Hoping to read the true SOC from the battery for better control for the battery. Anybody out there know how to connect the Pylon to the Raspberry PI? Quote

I am probably spoiled by the way the Sunsynk treats the batteries (like royalty lol) . I have monitored a bit via batteryview and all the cells were balanced perfectly and they cycle between 3,1-3,5 volts. I have been cycling my batteries 95% DOD every day for almost a year. 7Kwh pack has done a bit more than 2.1Mwh discharge in the last year and its still on 100% SOH. Quote

As reported by many people, the Axpert clone does not treat batteries well. Looks like it only reads voltage and not true SOC. I've seen a video with a Pylon connected to a Pi with a special cable running ICC software. Maybe I'm too worried. But can I connect the batteries without comms and set the Axpert to "USE" in the menu and set it to 52.2 volts? Quote

There is probably lots of benefits to that kind of battery control if you dont have comms with the inverter. Quote
PowerUser Posted May 14, 2022 Posted May 14, 2022 Hubble is fully compatible with the Axpert and they have published the voltage settings on their website: https://www.hubblelithium.co.za/axpert-hubble-setup.html Quote

The Hubble is 5.5kw as opposed to the 4.8kw of the Pylon. Will do more research before I choose. Quote
Warlok Posted May 15, 2022 Author Posted May 15, 2022 More confusion........ Why the price difference of R609.00 between these 2 batteries? One is GCS and the other not. Specs look the same. Quote
Nexuss Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 Not sure about that website , hellopeter reviews are not kind . Rather shop from a more reputable seller like the Powerforum store https://powerforum-store.co.za/collections/featured-products/products/pylon-up5000-4-8kwh-li-ion-solar-battery-48v Quote

Also, be aware of scammers when looking for best deals, don't give away your money Quote

Scammers are the scum of the earth. I'd like to meet one face to face. But, it looks like at last I will be getting the battery, even if I have to drive to the supplier. This forum has helped me and others so much. Very much appreciated. hoohloc 1 Quote
