Warlok got a reaction from Garthox in Cooling Sunsynk 5kWGood day.
5kw Sunsynk was between approx 55c and 65c before adding cooling
DIY cooler approx 45c -55c. (R650.00 inc. 12v 3A power supply)
Price does not include trunking. Used polystyrene to "seal" the sides
Laptop cooler approx 35c - 45c. (R629.00 Used cellphone 5v 1A power supply)
Sold the DIY cooler for R1000.00. (Had to include labor. 🤑)
The laptop cooler has been running non stop since 7 Dec' 2024 (Silent)
IMO it's better to blow air up from the bottom than sucking it up from the top.
Garthox wants to run Home Assistant. That's a rabbit hole, but so satisfying......

Warlok reacted to Calvin in Pylontech State of Health and Capacity relationOn these Pylons SOH is a very crude, hard-coded estimate.
For the first 1000 cycles: for each 100 completed cycles the SOH is decreased by 1%.
Thereafter, for each 167 completed cycles the SOH is decreased by 1%.
SOC is calculated based on Coulomb counting (from full) using the current SOH.
The exception to this is when charging above 89%, or discharging below 11%, SOC is based on a lookup table using the lowest cell voltage. That is why, when charging, the SOC seems stuck at 89% and then suddenly shoots up.
A further exception is that, when discharging, if any cell voltage gets into the values contained in the lookup table, the SOC reported for the pack is that value. This is why SOC will suddenly drop very quickly if there is a weak cell in the pack.
I have the full set of voltages and corresponding SOC values available if anybody is interested.

Warlok got a reaction from james naidoo in Is Sunsynk server down?Time was right, but set it to manual just in case.
App shows gateway connected and wifi dongle lights flashing as usual
when I click on plant no info, but then I saw this........

Warlok got a reaction from james naidoo in Is Sunsynk server down?Good day,
As from yesterday at 12:26 my inverter shows offline in the sunsync connect app and on the pc
When I re-create the plant in powerview everything looks fine

Warlok got a reaction from Greglsh in Sunsynk 5kW Inverter + Pylontech UP5000 + Solar AssistantThat's an expensive cable. But if you do not read the battery from the inverter it should work nicely

Warlok got a reaction from Yellow Measure in Sunsynk 5kW fault codes + general UI questionsPage 57 of the training manual
https://portal.segensolar.co.za/reseller/docs/Training Manual Sunsynk.pdf
"F13 - Working mode change
If you are making a change while the system is running, like parallel or disabling the parallel operation, it
may cause the system to crash. This is actually a very dangerous problem and can easily damage the inverter.
If you are making such changes, you need to isolate the inverter from the load. When the battery mode was
changed to 'No battery' mode, it will report F13.
If you get an F13 fault, the best solution is normally to reset the system."
Got F13 Fault after changing the timer. Beeped for a minute and then worked normally again.

I tend to over complicate things.

Warlok got a reaction from Mad Mike in Adding new batteries to existing bank of batteriesHi. Inverter model and name please. If the batteries are shot, you can rather sell them for scrap.
Imo, go for lithium. Wish I had when I got my system.
Don't feel bad for the basic question, my first venture into going off grid was a 1.2kva mecer pc ups and 10 7ah sliding gate batteries. I knew nothing.......

Warlok got a reaction from Yellow Measure in Sunsynk Sun 5kV Hybrid Inverter (Zero export function)I have always avoided connecting my inverter to the outside plugs due to the fact that if garden services was to plug in 2* 2000w lawnmowers into that, it could possibly damage my solar system. But now my outside plugs are connected via a 5amp cb which gives just over 1kw before tripping.
NOT MY INSTALL, BUT PRETTY CLOSE 🤣

Warlok got a reaction from hoohloc in Hubble or Pylontech on Axpert 4kW Clone? Thanks, already checked. My courier company asks R250.00 to pick up from that location.
Scammers are the scum of the earth. I'd like to meet one face to face.
But, it looks like at last I will be getting the battery, even if I have to drive to the supplier.
This forum has helped me and others so much. Very much appreciated.

Warlok got a reaction from BritishRacingGreen in Hubble or Pylontech on Axpert 4kW Clone?Thank you. Actually that's Node Red pulling the MQTT values from a raspberry pi3 connected via usb to the inverter.
This is how most of the flow looks like.

Warlok got a reaction from BritishRacingGreen in Hubble or Pylontech on Axpert 4kW Clone?Hubble Lithium AM-2 51V 100Ah. R 24,917.05
Pylon UP5000-GCS 4.8kWh Li-Ion Solar Battery 48V. R 23,300.00
So, another year has passed and I still haven't bought a new battery. Found these two batteries on the Powerstore.
Some might know my setup due to previous post, but here goes....
MKS4048 Axpert clone. (Yip, the bloody thing still works, and actually works well)
6*400w Canadian solar panels
4*100ah lieng long agm batteries (just about to explode under any load)
My base load is about 500w (100w when fridge/freezer cycles)
While geyser on, 1600w (10:00 - 14:00) (18:00 - 19:00) (04:00- 05:30)
Which battery will be better with my setup? My aim is to at least use it between 04:00 to 05:30 to run the geyser.
I've added a few pics. Node Red and a Pi3 running solpiplog. I can program it to turn the fridge/freezer off in the morning while the geyser is on.

Warlok got a reaction from hoohloc in Geyser ROI's. Electric vs Gas vs Solar and all the options and opinions in betweenI only use gas for cooking and Jan'21 I paid R250 for a 9kg bottle. This month it set me back R280. Next move is a coal stove and a "donkie" "insert smiley face here"

Warlok got a reaction from hoohloc in Geyser ROI's. Electric vs Gas vs Solar and all the options and opinions in betweenI heat my 150l kwikot geyser during the day using PV to a max of 65 degrees. This good enough to take me through the night as well. Then use grid power for the mornings. (45 degrees) this uses about 1.5-2 units daily. It's only me and the wife.
I was looking at the gas/solar geyser setup, and my wife told me that gas prices are sure to go up and up, so I went with pv.

Warlok got a reaction from Calvin in Adding Geyser to PV SystemI have done the conversion 2 weeks ago and all is working fine.
It can be done nicely with the following.....
Just make sure you get the right flange for your geyser.
My setup is as follows;
4kW axpert inverter
6*400w Canadian solar panels
4* 100aH batteries that are shot (In the process of getting a 3.5kW Pylon)
The following image is at 11:00 in the morning, but the app switches on the element at 10:00 and off at 13:30, but most times it reaches 65 degrees before 12:00.
I use eskom to top up the heat in the morning and evening, but I think a descent battery would offset the need. 45 degrees in the morning which is perfect for 2 showers and 55 degrees in the evening for doing the dishes etc......
The following is my pvoutput.org First for during the week and 2nd for weekend.
I still use about max about 10 units a day from eskom, which is about R600.00 a month, for night time use and topping up the geyser.
Hope the info contained here is of some use.
Thank you

Warlok got a reaction from hoohloc in Adding Geyser to PV SystemHi
ecodepot.co.za for the flange, sensor tube and the element.
But make sure you have enough solar for the element. the do come in 1.5kw and 2kw. I still had 55 degrees on my geyser at 17:00 today.
Takealot for the sonoff.

Warlok got a reaction from Yellow Measure in 6kw lithium-ion battery.....Good or bad?https://www.thewattstorsa.co.za/product/6kw-lithium-ion-battery/
Good day fellow users.
Just found this on the internet. Any one haven experience with the battery and is it good or bad?
The price is so far the best I've seen in SA, with free delivery.
Thanks a lot

Warlok got a reaction from hoohloc in Pylontech 2.4kw battery on 4kw axpert clone inverterThanks for the feedback.
It's just so sad that we have to spend this type of money so we can have power.
I remember a time when South Africa had the cheapest most reliable power.
Come April, another utility price increase, and the government wants solar users to pay a fixed fee for a grid connection.
Are we not the people who put less pressure on a already strained system? The more people go solar the less strain on the system. The less strain on the grid means less breakdowns, less wear and tear on the power stations and less fossil fuels being burnt.
I am aware of the duck curve, but hell, every little bit helps.
Sorry for the off-topic rant, but if eskom was doing what is was paid for all the years, we could have used the money elsewhere.
But in a way I am glad this is happening. We are pushing technology forward by going off grid. (as the say, "necessity is the mother of invention")
After a lot of research, I will be going with the Pylons.
Thanks for a great forum
