Sunsynk Sun 5kV Hybrid Inverter (Zero export function)

Let me (try) get this right.

Sunny day with non hybrid inverter. Load is 1.6kw, solar is 2kw, batteries carry the excess when it gets cloudy until they reach their back to utility setting. Then the whole load goes over to grid. Now, load is on grid, batteries are charging via solar and utility, or just one or the other. Until the system can go over to solar. Then the process repeats itself. Right?

Sunny day with hybrid inverter. Load is 1.6kw, solar is 2kw. Now, when it gets cloudy, grid will mix with solar to make up say 1.2kw with .4kw and the batteries will stay charged. And when solar is good and load is only .5kw, (zero export) nothing will be exported to the grid, but use it to keep the batteries full to stay of grid at night.

Let's export the excess to the grid. Perfect day for solar, can generate 2.4kw and only using .5kw. What must be in place for the prepaid meter to actually run backwards with 1.9kw of power going into it? I don't know how many people are willing to actually "sell" this excess power back to whoever.

Say I start with 500 units of prepaid power and day 1 use 10 of that because its a cloudy day. Day 2 I can put back 12 units and now I have 502. Day 3 put another 7 back and now I have 509 units. Day 4 very overcast and using 17 units from the grid. This can carry on for months until I reach say 60 units left on prepaid, then just buy another 440 units to be on 500 again?

I can see a big NO NO from the power utility, because other than giving the R1000 a month they get only R1000 every 4,5,6 months, unless I can go completely off-grid.

I know eskom does not like it when solar users only use them for a backup. (when they are not load-shedding).

We are trying to reduce the load on eskom, and that should be rewarded, either by making this scenario possible or just leave us alone by not making us pay a fixed fee just because we have solar.

Let me give you an example. A year ago I was shopping for a gas heater, (it gets very cold where I live in winter). I was surprised to see a lady in front of me by the cashier buy a 5kw electric heater, and I thought by myself, well if you can afford it, good for you. I've used my gas heater until the 9kg bottle ran empty, and never again. Gas is getting expensive.

Another example of our beautiful country. I know a guy that said, the substation in his neighborhood gave problems last year, they "repaired" it and since then nobody ever paid for power again. (no prepaid meter). They just "have" power. I told him winter is coming, and this is going to be a cold one, and he said, "No problem, I just leave my heater running day and night"

And another example; One guys prepaid meter was also giving him problems and the municipality electrician came out and "bypassed" it, said he will come back later to repair it. That was 2 years ago........

And another example..... No, I'll stop now before getting into trouble for speaking the truth.

Hope this post does not get me banned, but here goes

Are you asking a question or just day drinking?

Thanks, at least somebody read my post. No, not drinking at all. (so, I MUST be mad)

Sorry, I may have went off topic there.

Ok, one question. Is there a way I can get back the excess power generated while on prepaid, other than storing it with batteries?

Unfortunately not. There are areas where you can be compensated for export, but not on prepaid.

Thanks. Appreciate the help. Next step then is to go totally off-grid.

If exporting to the grid doesn’t work in Australia by one or another reason, why do you think here will be managed better and there is an entity in this country which can successfully make it to benefit everyone?

Excellent point. I see Matt's neighbor doesn't have solar. Maybe they can negotiate to share? It is possible. In times of heavy load-shedding, I was helping out my neighbor so that at least he could enjoy the rugby during blackouts.

Very possible and actually quite easy to do.
Ride past any settlement area and see how they do it :)

But seriously, you could easily do that, BUT!!!! our lovely bylaws and laws prohibit it.

Do those bylaws exclude putting up an outdoor wall socket near the inside of your boundary wall in a secluded corner, let's say near a JoJo tank and pump? I mean, if you plausibly didn't know that your neighbour was stealing power by popping an extension lead over the wall, can they really blame you?

I have always avoided connecting my inverter to the outside plugs due to the fact that if garden services was to plug in 2* 2000w lawnmowers into that, it could possibly damage my solar system. But now my outside plugs are connected via a 5amp cb which gives just over 1kw before tripping.

NOT MY INSTALL, BUT PRETTY CLOSE 🤣
