How much power does my SS5kw draw?

Featured Replies

The SS 5K inverter should use between 40 and 80W to power itself. What you seem to be experiencing is similar to one of my installs where 200-300W of PV "disappears". Only when PV is active. I have a case logged with Sunsynk since 4 weeks ago, and they cannot explain it. It is on M 3.3.7.4 / S  0.5.1.3 / C E.4.2.4

Just to add. It was using between 40 and 80w up until some time last week. No changes. Tried requesting an update of the FW which was done this morning some time it seems but hasnt helped in terms of the additional draw of the inverter...

OK, so the new version also does it then. SS support did mention it to me that a newer version was out, but they were no sure if it fixed anything remotely to my problem. Looks like the same secrecy around firmware updates that plague all installers and end-users apply to support staff as well 😞

I suggest logging a call with Sunsynk directly. Part of the reason why it has taken so long for them to resolve my issue is the fact that I seem to be the only one with the problem, if there are more complaints, then the urgency for resolution might get increased.

done that but have had no response or even acknowledgment...

its almost as if the efficiency of the inverter has dropped and the losses when converting seem to be the difference i am seeing? if this is the case then thats quite concerning. the differences now is at almost 300w.

OK so Sunsynk has come back to me: They say that they suspect it is a faulty measurement sensor and that I will have to send it in for repair. I asked whether I could get a loan unit, but my request was refused. 😒

We do not offer loan units.

The turnaround time for an inverter is currently 3-4 weeks.

This despite the Sunsynk Loan Unit Agreement.

These companies are mostly all the same, fancy sales pages/videos/pamphlets and marketing gobbledeeegooks and then when it comes time to do warranty claims or actual good support, that's when all the excuses start.

It's a shame as some of these brands are pretty awesome products if you won the electronics lottery with a device built with good healthy components :)
This goes equally for the ready to go pre-built batteries and their wonderful claims and warranties.

Thanks for the feedback bud. Ive had the installers out who tried trouble shooting the CT, resetting the machine, rolling back firmware... so far still not sorted. They are now apparently in communication with Sunsynk SA to what can be done. Ive asked for another machine to be connected to confirm that it is in fact a fault on my machine, if so, I will be pushing for a replacement as the system is only around 5 weeks old so dont really want a brand new (expensive) piece of equipment to be repaired if it had a fault...

I have a friend that just installed a 8kw Sunsynk with the exact same issue ,about 220-320w 'self consumption' whenever there is PV.

I share your view on what happens after the equipment is sold. It's a shame

Hi, so thought id post an update... installers came through again and replaced the machine with a new machine. Same issue unfortunately so they are also at a loss and are awaiting further feedback from Sunsynk. not sure if it is related to something else on the hardware side or suspect something to do with FW comm e424 which is the only other 'change' that occurred on the system.

Have you managed to get anywhere on your end with the similar issue? I see you also mentioned software e424, I wonder if this could be part of the issue? Maybe just to rule it out, I should have them roll back to e420?

I have the e424 firmware without this issue on my 5kw synsynk .... My friend also on the e424 version does have this problem ,about 300watts of lost energy when there is PV .

Not yet, they requested a video of all settings. I sent it a few days ago, waiting for feedback.
