August 21, 20232 yr Hello. I have a Max 11kw (pip8048) with 8 560w panels connected in series. I noticed that the mmpt controller never raised the current above 11A for 3 months. Although the panels are capable of delivering more than 14A. And on the previous inverter, subjectively, I got more. Is it possible that this is a software limitation?

The 8 kW manual I happen to have open says 18 A max PV panel current, peer MPPT. I can't imagine that the 11 kW models would have a lower current limit. Usually, apart from brief moments (of the order of 10-60 seconds) after a cloud passes, panels provide a maximum of about 75-80% of rated power. So you might not get much more than 80% of the rated 14 A, and 0.8 x 14 = 11.2 A. Maybe you just thought you got more from your previous inverter. What is the NOCT (Normal Operating CondiTion) Imp? It could be some sort of firmware bug, rather than a deliberate limitation. What version of main (U1) firmware are you running?

My preliminary conclusion is that the early 72.68 is some sort of debugging version that was not meant to be released. So now I can compare 72.66 and the later 72.68, to see what changes were made, and therefore if it's worth patching 72.68 again. If it is, the work I've done for 72.66 should transplant into 72.68 fairly easily. Edit: I note that 92.04's MPPT algorithm is different from earlier and later versions. It's not clear to me which is going to be best, but all the later firmwares seem to be doing it similar to 72.66 and later. 92.04 does not have the 250 V test. Those that have used 72.66, for example, don't report much improvement. I was hoping that it would be the "right way" to fix the problem. So far, the 0.05 A current threshold seems to be the best fix. That's what 272.66 and many of my later patches do. And if I understand correctly, you already have this in 92.05, except that the threshold is twice what we now believe is the best value. Now, if only Voltronic would try this and save a bunch of hassle for future owners. Maybe with their facilities, they can find an even better threshold, or some modification of the algorithm that is better all around. But so far, they've never touched that 0.5 A threshold.

Just run the Arena reflash tool (the only executable). Click on the File button; the first time you run it you have to navigate to the reflash folder (I wish that they could fix that). Then there will only be the choice of the two .inv files. One has "original" in it, that's only for if you need to go back to it. The other one will have 272.66 in the name; that's the one you want to start with. The leading "2" (or other digit) indicates that it's the patched firmware; so far, all factory firmware is four digits total (nn.nn), apart from a few display firmwares with 5 digits that start with a leading "1" (1nn.nn). So I avoid a leading one in patched firmware now. You need a Windows machine to run the reflash program. The photo above looks like it's on a phone or iPad.

The Axpert Max E is what Voltronic call the Max models without the round display; I think of it as the ones with the rEmovable display. The Axpert Max II are the models with the round display.

My understanding, without owning one of these models, is that it's really "either or". So only use the shading one if you have a particular problem with shading. If you do have a shading problem, then definitely use that one. As for the others, sorry, there are so many, using various techniques, and in many cases, targeting a specific minimum MPPT voltage, and some may work better than others with a particular number of panels. The best thing is to read through them all (I know it's a long topic), and decide which one sounds like it matches your situation better than others. I wish it was easier, but we're still exploring the various options. Hopefully one day we'll have one solution that works well for most users, though of course with the proliferation of models, you still have to choose the right version that matches your hardware.

August 24, 20232 yr I think you're looking at battery-side current. Half an amp at 50 V is only 25 W; barely enough to get the power supply started. The 0.05 A threshold is panel current, something that is rarely reported by inverters or their monitoring software. Please check your PV power for the same period.
